I got a Duron (Morgan) 1100mhz Being read as 500mhz Mobile Duron and would like to know how I can set it back to its original settings

see i've been trying that since i got the processor and my windows completely freezes anytime i try changing the vcore or the multi settings, and this happens with just about any program i use to change the multi, it either freezes on me instantly or it does no change whatsoever

i did the connecting procedures and still nothing, still being read at 500mhz, still freezes when i edit vcore/multi

I recently rechecked the processor for any extra info I can give you guys to help me so I put it under my lamp and magnified it, And came to find out the L1 bridges on the processor are already factory connected, none of the stripes are cut off, What does this mean, & do I still have a chance at bring this processor to its original setting?

Well after alot of digging info up on my board since I havent been getting much help in these forums, My only thing to do is flashing my bios, I already have the fic az31 bios driver, I have 2 of these uwave board im gonna try to flash it on 1 board and see what happens, but the problem is I only have the drivers but I cant find a good bios flashing program, I tried uniflash but when I open it via windows it give me "PCI bus not found or not responding" any help?

As far as I can establish, your upgrade attempt is beset with problems:

1) The 06E4h motherboard is Compaq's proprietary version of the FIC AZ31 - it's not the same board and has a crippled BIOS. Hence some options are either limited or non-existent.

2) This board only supports the following CPUs:

. Spitfire Duron upto 950MHz (1.6v)
. 100FSB Athlon Thunderbird to 1.4GHz (1.75v)

The Morgan Duron is not supported.

3) The PSU and case will prohibit a more cost-effective board. Heat is also an issue.


Is may be that you have tried to use a CPU on a board that cannot accomodate it, and any attempt to update/hack the BIOS could be risky. Compaq are renowned for restricting upgrade potential.

I would recommend using that Spitfire Duron on a 110MHz FSB x 7.5 = 825MHz. I do not know if the pencil trick on the CPU will work in order to give you 950MHz, the CPU may not take it. Not really worth it..

Not true. I have run two of these compaq OEM boards with Duron Morgan core 1.3GHz, no problem, with its latest compaq bios. Not aware how it behaves with the earlier versions.

mr.st., check if the(last?) L5 bridge is connected, if is, it may be the reason its read as Mobile Duron. Then you need to cut that bridge. please read up on the duron L5 before cutting anything.

A Morgan Duron may work with a BIOS update, but that is not straightforward.

Due to the unknown origin of this board and its revision together with the concerns over using a BIOS for another motherboard, the upgrade is risky IMO.

You may need to use the Uniflash http://www.uniflash.org/ and the Award BIOS from the FIC AZ31, to potentially give you Morgan Duron support.

A bad flash could leave you without a computer. Compaq didn't like poeple upgrading their own hardware hence the poor support.

The latest FIC AZ31 bios will not make much difference, it is _old_. If the flash is successful, a duron morgan will read out as Athlon(cosmetic error). The Morgans came out long after fic released its final version for az31. I agree its very risky to flash this compaq board with fic's own. Pleace check that the bios chip is the socketed model in case things do not go well. Then there is yet a chance to recover it if it dies. Backup whatever you need+bios.
