Well DDR SDRAM (Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory) is a type of memory evolved out of SDRAM, it has a higher bandwidth. DDR SDRAM reads both the leading and falling edges of the clock, so theoretically DDR SDRAM transfers two times the data the older SDRAM was capable of.

AMD64 socket-754 and AMD socket-939 motherboards use DDR SDRAM, PC3200 (DDR400) is the most commonly used.

AMD AM2 motherboards use DDR2 SDRAM, DDR2 basiclly runs at faster speeds then DDR allowing higher bandwith.
