Sorry if this is the wrong forum and place to post this, but I'm currently running AMD Athlon XP 2400 and I've been looking for a sound driver for the last two hours or so, this is just incredibly thrustrating, where can I find these drivers?

The CPU series/type is not relevant to the sound drivers you need, motherboard make, model & chipset are

If you have a pre-built like CompaQ, Dell etc. I'd start with the model designation, if not... printed on your motherboard (itself) will be make/model details (for example see below)

With your mobo, usually you have a cdrom with drivers.
You need sound drivers, ok but why ? did you upgrade your OS ?

I have the SAME problem with my K6. I acquired a hand me down computer for my kids and I'm looking for an audio device driver for my speakers to work. Here is the information that was on my motherboard:

KD8002995
VA-503-B86K52-B

Does anyone know where I can dowload this driver? I don't have the original disks of where this driver info came from.

thanks,
Michelle

Michelle, its a FIC VA-503 board, does not have on board audio, but a separate ISA or PCI sound card. Please read the details of the sound card itself, then we try find the driver.

I'm not sure where to get more details on the sound card. When I plug in the speakers and Add new Hardware, it gives me a box that's called: PCI Multimedia Audio Device, and the status is "the device for this driver is not installed (code 28). I'm running Windows 98.

thanks for any help!

The only way to make sure is to open the case(power cord disconnected), locate the sound card. Read all markings on the board(both sides). May need to take out the card to read it. Also if possible identify the audio chip on the board.

ok - there were 3 attachments to my motherboard. I think I found the sound card. It was by Creative Technologies and it said Sound Blaster. Here is the model #: SB0410
Serial #: C6SB0410535003076L

Going by what google 'threw up' after entering the brand & model no. you provided, it appears your sound card Michelle is a SoundBlaster Live! (24Bit) and a relatively new soundcard

Drivers can be downloaded from Creative's web site found HERE

Hiya all, new here so bear with me.
I have the same problem my daughters Tiny AMD Duron AT/AT was reformated to Windows 2000 professional and now there is no music.
"Multimedia Audio Controller is missing / no mixer software available."
Realtek 8201L on the motherboard, and have run Belarc Advisor (shown below) can't work out what drivers to re-install. Haved tried HD Audio from Realtek.
Have downloaded the AMD (AMDdrvpk_130.exe) to run tonight, after uninstalling the mixers drivers.

HELP...all my daughter wants to do is play her music ?

Thanks in advance.

Open up your computer, look at your sound card, write down the numbers on the chip or words printed on the board (usually printed white, and you usually only need the top line of numbers on the chip), close your computer back up, and look online with the number you just wrote down! Google is your friend! So is driverguide!

Cheers, I assume the sound card will be in a PCI slot ?
If so - there isn't one there, so I had assumed it was onboard ?

Yes, if all the slots are empty and you connect the sound cord in a hole thats near all the usb ports and keyboard port etc, then its onboard. In that case, you can either try to find the sound chip on the motherboard (usually near the back edge of the board near where you plug in the sound cord, or a little lower down that edge) or you can look in your computer manual for the type of motherboard you have and search the motherboard model.

I was just saying this as a generic for all the clueless people who are like
" LOL I CNT FIND SOND DRIVER CAN HELP PLZ GIVE ME DOWNLOAD DRIVER!?!?!11"

I just searched Realtek 8201L and came up with a bunch of network drivers. Realtek makes network and sound cards, so i see where you mixed that up. It says that on the chip but its really a SIS 900 network chip.

Try and look around some more for other chips on the board that may be the sound, that realtek sound driver obviously will do you no good.

Hiya, thanks for the update (made me smile a little). As it is not a seperate sound card (all slots are empty) so guessed it was onboard. And yes, all the realtek drivers I have tried haven't done anything. The chips I can see are SIS 730S X86. 686 AMIBIOS B105 5707., and the Realtek RTL 8201L.
The J2 jumper is empty at the moment, so if I find a motherboard layout I assume I will find out what it does.
I am guessing the previous owner had a seperate sound card (with lead plugged in to J2?) and so deleted the mixer driver that was on there.
OK, bottom line. Do I spend time searching t'internet to get the drivers, or just buy a new sound card and stick in in PCI and hpe all the new drivers for it sort themselves out ??

(Is the hardware Audio Codec chip on the motherboard what I should be looking for ??)

Cheers.

Not really.

You need the sound drivers for the motherboard.
