Hey guys I'm a noob at the whole processor thing, I have this AMD athlon 901mhz (yeah i kno how sad). I just got into the gaming biz with a 128 nvidia 5200 vid card, 1gb 512 mb of sdram, and the only thing slowling me down now is this processor, So I decided to buy the 2200+ amd athlon, and i dont even kno what kind of socket is my old processor and not even sure if the new one will fit, the new ones socket info is:Socket A (Socket 462) 2200 MHz Rated Speed 133 MHz Bus Frequency
All i want to know is will the new one fit on my old socket, i know how to add and remove processors but i dont kno about the different kinds for i am still a starter, please some1 help me out here so i can rid myself of this old processor, also i tried looking through the amd help site and it was no help at all for the link was broken and i got the "website unvaliable" error, so please help will be appriciated.

Download CPU-Z, run it and copy/paste the report here(about tab and click Registers Dump(.txt). Please also give the specifications of the power supply(V rails+Amps). Can you also provide the numbers on the label off your xp2200+. Then we'll know a bit more to be able to help you.

ok, so its a compaq uwave board. There is a very high probability this motherboard does not support 133MHz fsb. And if it would, its yet uncertain it'll support your xp2200+. You can try the CPU in the computer, it'll fit for size. The thing is that if it runs, it will only run at 1350MHz(13.5x100MHz, when it should run 1800MHz. Remember the thermal paste, only a tiny amount at the center of the core.

Sadly a 'motherboard transplant' may be the only way you could use that processor of yours to it's fully rated specification  While mATX socket A motherboards can be readily sourced (mostly second hand) from eBay and similar places, I'm not fully versed in the compatibility requirements (if indeed there are any) of CompaQ cases/systems, if however they are similar to IBM protocols... it'd be possible to adapt the control connectors to suit a generic interface

A Duron 1.3GHz is ok, a couple of years old games yet runs with it. If your xp2200+ runs in your motherboard, its a better option though, larger L2 cache, maybe you should just use it since you already have it. Good luck.
