I want to set up some VMs on an AM2+ box to consolidate some machines, and I need IOMMU to allow PCI Passthrough in VMWare ESXi. Anyone know if any AM2+ chipsets support IOMMU?
To my knowledge, the only desktop/workstation chipset that supports IOMMU is the new 890FX which is only on AM3 boards.
Please note that I am NOT an authoritative source and I am also currently researching the subject.
I know that all 700 chipsets do not have it and the 890GX is effectively the same north bridge from the 700 series (no IOMMU)
Right now I'm trying to find confirmation on whether all 890FX boards automatically inherit IOMMU support.
There is currently mention of a patch being written for KVM to provide 'AMD IOMMU emulation' although it's nothing more than that, mention of the beginnings of a patch.
