I plan on building an inexpensive system to use as a server at home. I am going to install Windows Server 2003 x64 on a board with the 790GX chipset/Radeon HD3300.

I really do not care about the HD functionality, nor do I care about the audio driver. Also, I am not going to use the RAID functionality, and I am okay with setting the hard drive to IDE mode. The onboard NIC is a Realtek, and they provide a driver for Server 2003 x64. So, my only problem is whether or not the motherboard chipset will work. I have checked the motherboard manufacturer's site and AMD's driver site, and there are no specific drivers for Server 2003 x64.

So, my question is whether or not I can install Server 2003 x64 with this chipset. Has anyone ever tried this? I have an existing machine with Server 2003(x86) on a VIA chipset that works fine, but it is going to be retired.

Biostar TA790GX A3+

But, I have checked others(Gigabyte, ASUS, MSI,etc.). None of them offer support for server 2003 x64 or 2008. Gigabyte will list Server 2003 64-bit in the drop down selection for the driver download of the motherboards, but no drivers are found. Only BIOS patch, manual, and utilities.

AMD did not have any drivers on their site either.

Thanks mbjbdc. The audio functionality is not a big deal to me. If I can find the driver great, but I will not have speakers connected, so it does not matter.

When you installed Server 2003 x64, did you have the BIOS set to SATA mode for the hard drive? If so, did you just use the XP x64 driver? I do not intend to use RAID functionality.

Thanks. I downloaded the file. Even, if it doesn't work, I am okay with using IDE mode.

I chose this particular board for three reasons.

1. Has PS2 ports for both the keyboard and mouse
2. Supports the Athlon II X4 series
3. Has onboard video with VGA and DVI out
