990 chipset & motherboards

I'm not completely satisfied with the 990 chipset because it appears that the only difference between the 990 and the 890 is the HyperTransport rev. 3.1 going from 5200 MT/s to 6400 MT/s. Some mobos don't even have that.

What will come after the 990 chipset? Will it include a HyperTransport rev. 4.0? Will those mobos also include the new PCI Express 3.0 ? It would be nice to have at least 4 USB 3.0's too - 2 in the back & 2 in the front.

http://www.tomshardware.com/re...3.0-pci-sig,2695.html

I'm holding out for a complete next generation mobo before I do a new build. Everything is looking really good except I'm just waiting for a newer HT 4.0 and PCI ex 3.0.

Err one need not use 'hacked' methods for SLI cos 990X/990FX would offer both CF/SLI @ 8/8 and 16/16 and we still have no idea the performance impact/issues of running a Zambezi on a 800 series mobo so....

Unfortunately, as of this date (june 19'th), one does require hacked drivers to get SLI on 990FX motherboards as there are not currently any drivers available (WHQL or Beta) which enable SLI on these chipset boards.

Reviewers were sent hacked quatra drivers which aren't available for download, and the standard GeForce drivers haven't been updated yet.

Only a matter of time and hey presto:

GeForce 275.50 Driver
linky
Version: 275.50 BETA Release Date: 2011.06.20 Operating System: Windows 7, Windows Vista

New in Release 275.50
Enables SLI technology on SLI-certified motherboards with AMD chipsets: 990FX, 990X, and 970.

That said this round CF scaling, performance per watt and bang for buck is better than SLI so meh lol

Wow, what a major disappointment - none of these new 990 motherboards even have HyperTransport (HT) rev 3.1 and they still only have PCI ex 2.0 yet, they're all way over priced.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...D=1s01ctot1tr0b

At those prices they should have HT 4.0, PCI ex 3.0 and Light Peak too!

Searching the HT website and PCI history, according to the 'HyperTransport Consortium' website HT 3.0 has been out since 2006 and rev. 3.1 has been out since 2008. Plus, PCI Ex 2.0 has been around since Jan of 2007.

http://www.hypertransport.org/...page=Technology

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P...PCI_Express_2.0

It really is time for HT 4.0 and PCI Ex 3.0.

PS

I notice the Asus Crosshair V Formula/ThunderBolt has some updates on lag (at .27) and ping (at 1:30) though in the Asus youtube video -

That's pretty cool to me since I do play some online games where ping & lag are a real problem. I'd like to see more about that. I wonder just how much better is it, really?

The 9 series isn't a major update on previous one it's more incremential and the main pro points being non chipset related ala larger than 2Tb HDD support as makers respond to that...USB 3 has been out a while but we've headers on most of the new boards.
You'll have to wait till FM2 to get PCI-E 3 I seriously doubt you'll run into problems performance wise on PCI-E 2

I've never been a fan of buying ultra high end boards so I'd stick to more middle range ones the cash outlay on a fancy board is hard to justify when chipsets chance and more importantly sockets do.

I have an M5A97EVO and I can NOT make a RAID-0 with Windows 7 64bits, because the drivers are WRONG, without signature or wrong signature. When the PC started I made the RAID-O perfectly, etc.. but when I tried to install Windows 7 64bits nothing appears on the instalation (I have 3 Samsung SpintPoint F3 on RAID-0) but I can not see them.
I tried to download drivers from asus, gigabyte, etc.. etc, just to try. But nothing works for me.
I think this is a scam to users, this kind of products highend without the appropriate drivers seems to be a joke.

Just to clarify, If a try to install on Windwos 7 32Bits, everything works prefectly.
