I have a HP ProLiant MicroServer (N36L), which I have been using with the standard Windows Server drivers so far.

I am making a fresh installation Windows Hyper-V 2008 R2 Core onto it, and want to make sure that I have the optimum drivers installed. I want to use the chipset RAID with it. I have not used RAID on this server before.

I think the server has the 785E chipset with SB 8X0 southbridge. What software should I have installed?

I have heard that there is some sort of AMD software which will allow me to remotely monitor the RAID health through a web-browser. What should I be using for this functionality?

What I am most concerned with is having chipset RAID-1 functioning on Hyper-V 2008 R2 Core and being able to monitor SMART information remotely, and hopefully get warnings sent through email or Event Monitoring.

First see if you can enaable RAID in the BIOS. The HP BIOS might not let you enable RAID.

If you can enable RAID in the BIOS, you will need the F6 driver for AMD RAID. They should be available on the CD that sould have come with the motherboard.

Otherwise you can download them from AMD. I found the latest at http://support.amd.com/us/gpud...ages/raid_windows.aspx.

I'm pretty sure that the option is available in the BIOS.

And what about RAIDxpert? Is there any other software that I need to know about?

I updated the link.

It's not hard to find. Just go to the AMD site and hover over "Find a Driver" near the upper right corner. Select Motherboard/Chipset. under Component Category. Select chipset series then OS. Note, use Windows 7 for Server 2008 R2.

Thanks for your help. When installing Hyper-V, at the F6 prompt, do I point it to these .exe files, or should I unpack them first?

Also, I am unsure of I need the first package, as I will not be using AHCI as I am using RAID (correct?), and I do not have USB3.0 on the server (or do I?).

You need to unpack them first. Then drill down under packages, and so on.
