Is there a way to go wireless without having to give up your current router?

Well there are two options that I can think of.

1) Wireless Access Point which plugs into the existing router, takes IPs from the existing router and just transmits a wireless signal (basically)
2) Add on a wireless router, though you will not be able to connect through to an existing workgroup (unless the router has a feature to have it act as an access point [my Motorola WR850G does]) but it will distribute IPs and such.
