Ok, I have been reading up on HTML + XHTML, CSS and other internet markup/programming languages and am now interested into diving a little deeper and doing some hands on work. The issue is that I need a web host to host all my "experimental/learning" webpages to get the complete feel. Now I looked into many online web hosting companies but am not impressed. I'm the kind of guy who wants full control, and when I mean full control, I mean control over the webserver and my wallet. So now I'm looking for a server setup that's extremely price sensitive but can do the things I need it to do. This is going to be running off the internet I have at home here (Time Warner cable, it has over 1mbps upload speed which from what I hear, is plenty). Anyways, along with running a webserver off of it, I also like to, if I can, run a vent server and a game server off this machine simultaneously. Can you guys give me some insight on what kind of machine I'm looking at?

Dell ID number: 932RY

This system was picked up for a cheap price. My friend wanted to play games as simple in terms of graphical performance as Anarchy Online.

Now, this system is a Dell system and I think somewhere on the website it claimed how this system is really only meant for business type application. However, my thoughts are - a computer is a computer and upgrades mean better performance.

Eitherway, my friend has invested quite a bit of money in upgrading this system. Statistically, however, the money can only be literally described as infinitely too much for the gains he has got because there has been no performance upgrading in Anarchy Online at all. Also, just for extra information, AO is a game which is still using DX7.

Anyway, my friend decided to get upgrades for the system. From 512Mb to 2Gb Kingston DDR; the memory is not an issue it is installed and registering.

Furthermore, my friend bought a Radeon 7500 video card (PCI - because that is the only possible port to use on this Dell mainboard). Installing the video card and disabling the onboard video card the game - Anarchy Online - still runs at really low FPS.

I am fully aware that the card bought is not the best, but there should have been some sort of upgrade at least toward FPS. AO is currently running at about 5FPS which is just unplayble. It runs better when View Distance is decreased but the entire idea of getting this upgrades was to have some acceptable eye candy and having viewing distance set to closest possible definitely is not good eye candy.

I have tried to download the latest drivers for the card but for some reason the system keeps on giving me an error everytime. The computer seems to be trying its best to not allow me to update the drivers. I have set the computer to use this Video Card as the primary one as well as disable the onboard card.

What do you think can be done. Surely he should be achieving at least 30FPS on half good eye candy settings.

I've been having much trouble with my PC for about a month now. I'll try to be as detailed and clear as possible (I apologize for any language-related problems since I'm not a native speaker).

First off, the specs:

Mobo: ASUS M3A AM2+
CPU: Athlon X2 5200+ 2.7GHz
RAM: 4 sticks 1GB DDR2 800MHz Supertalent CAS 5 (dual channel)
GPU: nVidia GeForce 8600 GT
PSU: Vitsuba 450 watt (18A @ 12v rail)
*note: the PSU is generic (yet I don't think it's utter crap).
OS: Win XP 32 bit first/ Win 7 Home Prem 64 bit after

The Whole Problem:

-It all started about 3 weeks ago, when the PC, running XP, started rebooting quite randomly when the PC was not being used and at two other occassions while gaming. I then got to know that a file called powrprof.dll (or something alike) was missing and I stopped the reboots by replacing it.
-Some days later, the PC BSODed and XP wouldn't boot. Running chkdsk from a Win 7 RC install from another HDD solved this problem.
-The PC did this a few more times (and I managed to repair XP with chkdsk).
-Then my dad was playing (no comment) FIFA 10 while the game slowed down, then froze, and BSODed. This time, he heard some strange noise comming from the PC (he describes it as something getting into a chasis fan, though I've never heard how it sounded like). But chkdsk did not repair XP, so I had to repair XP from the install disk. Windows XP would just BSOD after the XP logo and loading bar was displayed at booting.
-After the repair, the same thing happened again to my father, and I repaired XP but did not finish repairing it since I got my new copy of Win 7 Home Premium.
-I wiped out XP and installed Win 7, which ran flawlessly.
-The same day I installed Win 7 I left the PC on overnight.
-The following morning (today), I found the PC frozen in the screen which appears prior to the repair console. I rebooted, and found that W 7 would BSOD in the exact same moment XP BSODed (right after "starting windows" disappears) while booting. The W7 repair console fails to open.

Hypotheses:

1- PSU failure is the root of all problems? Might be causing HDD to fail randomly? Evidence: Game getting low FPS before BSOD.
Counter evidence: Both Windows installs got similarly corrupted, which is unlikely for a random error; CPU and GPU stress stesting do not cause the PC to reboot.
2- HDD failure or damage causes the OS to get corrupted and fail.
Evidence: Both Win 7 and XP got similarly corrupted; noise comming from the PC. Counter evidence: ???
3- Other component failure??? Suggest which please (tested RAM and it's OK).

Help:

What do you think is causing all the problems???

Hello folks..

I have the ASROCK AOD790GX/128 MB which was bought to replace a blown asus board running amd raid. My raid was a stripe/stripe mirror system running on 4 samsung 500gb drives for a total of 1gb.

my failure with the ASUS board started with the board taking a drive out of the array for no real reason.. it ended in bdos errors at any and every point including an attempted fresh install of vista on a spare drive.

I was able to put together this ASROCK board (extremely nice board) and I was able to get a striped set to load and run from where I had left off when my asus board died.

After going thru all the setup and fine tuning, etc.. I added back two more drives but due to limited choices in the RAIDEXPERT local utility I managed to add two more drives to the stripe rather than what I wanted which was a striped mirror of the first set.

Now I have a 4gb stripe. I have been gun shy to delete the array and hope to put it back together since I don't know that is the right choice.

How do I get from a 4 drive stripe back to a raid stripe/mirror set? There is a lot of data on the drives and yes I have a backup but the time it will take for me to recreate this and start over will be a very long time. Is there a method to undo this array and convert it back to a stripe mirror?

My first stripe set was on sata ports 1 and 3. I am assuming that the additional two stripes went in at 2 and 4 since that's the order I did this.

Any suggestions? There is no menu options at RAIDEXPERT to change this other than to delete the array. Is this the correct step?

FOr those that are interested. I am very impressed with the ASROCK board. After ABIT lost their mojo, I stuck with ASUS and GIGABYTE but in 3 years I've had two GB and 1 ASUS board fail so I'm over it. The ASROCK setup and ran without having to nurture it along and it's bios was dead on solid which isn't the case with the ASUS board. Check out ASROCK, it's top of the line.

Thanks,

Bill

Hey there, it has been a long time since I posted on this forum with a technical enquiry:

Let us say I turn my computer off and try and start it the next day in the usual way of turning it on by the power switch - as everyone does... Sometimes when the computer is just initialising the monitor will stay on standby and my computer will run for about 10 seconds and then switch off and start again on its own.

Tonight, I turned it on and it started up, however, the screen stayed on standby and the computer turned itself off and started up again as it sometimes does. On this second attempt the computer succesfully posted though. It all seems very inconsisted.

My CMOS battery on the motherboard is a little bit loose and it does not seem to be in correctly - and I remember the monitor turning on once - recently - when I started it up and it said something along the lines of: BIOS reset or something.

This has been an ongoing problem for a while now and, to be honest, it did seem to happen at the time the plastic bracket that holds the CMOS battery in place broke.

In summary, my computer sometimes starts and sometimes does not -
What could be the issue? Should I get a new battery?

I am getting a nice new monitor tomorrow and I want my computer in nice condition so I was just wondering if anyone could assist with this burden of a problem...

Thankyou.

---
Edit

---

E6750,
2*1Gb (DDR2 Crucial Ballistix),
8800GTS,
2*36Gb Raptor RAID 0
Mainboard: Gigabyte P35-DQ6.

Finally, I noticed that for some reason taking a module of memory out seems to solve the problem. However, the problem has now started to occur with just 1 module of memory. Still just using the 1 module at the minute though, so running 1Gb single at the minute.

The problem now is just that I dont have the new AAmode tab, only the old AAA. I have tried CCC 9.10 and 9.11beta without luck. I have tired to google it but none seems to have this problem.
