Any advice before I try a re-install of Windows to get my Power Options back to normal? Thanks

Oops! Sorry I just noticed this should be under "troubleshooting". Task manager shows one graph called CPU Usage history(top). and another graph below called physical memory usage history. From what I have been reading it should show two graphs for a dual core processor correct?
Other reason I believe this to be true is I ran a test from Performance test7 and my final result was a 733.7. Compared it with other comps base lines and it should be up in the 1000-1200 range.
Could some one help me figure this out please. If the one core is not working I need to know how to get it going.
If more info needed regarding my system will provide.
Thanks, tossed.

help on detecting stalls(identifying structural hazards) in assembly code

Hi All,
Our project is to optimize instruction scheduling in gcc by detecting structural hazards. We looked at the current dfa implementation(gen-automata.c and insn-automata.c). We are trying to come up with a test case for the same, a scenario wherein one of the instructions is stalled due to the resource being used by some other instruction. However, we are unable to do so.
1. We wrote a C program - doing - floating point multiplications, divisions and additions. However in both the files - 'progname.s' file and 'progname.c.190r.sched2' file, the instructions were scheduled for execution in sequential order. We couldn't find a way to detect a stall, by looking at the assembly code generated.
Question: How do we detect that a stall has occurred if execution is being carried out in a particular sequence?
Also we would like to know of a tool, which given a 'progname.s' file, gives details of the execution time of each instruction and the clock cycle in which stall will occur, if execution is carried out in this sequence.

2. We saw that integer operations were already being performed during compilation. Hence we were left with only floating point operations to be looked into for structural hazards.
Question: Once a stall is detected in case of floating point unit being used currently by some other instruction, which instruction can be scheduled in so as to avoid this stall(since integer operations are performed at compile time and floating point units are being used)?

Target machine architecture: 686
Working on: Athlon X2 (K8 architecture)

Thanking you,
Dhiraj

Today I damaged the pins on my Athlon 64 3300+ 2.4 GHz Socket 754 CPU. When I put it back in the computer after loosing 3 pins and bending a few others the computer would not even try to start. I now see how to take the CPU off of the heat sink so installing the replacement won't be too hard.

My motherboard is an ASUS K8S-LA from my HP Computer. According to the HP site the compatible CPU's for this mb would be:

AMD 64 3700+ (Clawhammer 2.4 GHz)
AMD 64 3400+ (Newcastle 2.4 GHz)
AMD Sempron

Looking for recommendations on what I should look to purchase. I am hoping that when I get the new CPU the PC will start up after installing.

I am in Pennsylvania, USA and will likely buy on-line.

Thanks

I have a AMD A64 x2 4200+ 2.2GHz SKT 939 Processor ADA4200DAA5BV.

In searching I found the following 2 upgrades / tweeks for this processor.

Is it OK to use them on the same system at the same time?

1) AMD Dual-Core Optimizer Version 1.1.4

The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core processor systems, by periodically adjusting the core time-stamp-counters, so that they are synchronized.

2) AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver v 1.3.2.16 for Win XP / Server
2003 (x86 and x64)

Allows the system to automatically adjust the CPU speed, voltage and power combination that match the instantaneous user performance need.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Todd

Hi there.

I'm attempting to acquire a processor of some description for someone I know. I know the processor is AMD as I've identified the motherboard as an ASUS M2N4-SLI and it apparently supports a range of processors, some of them being in the Athlon 64 family.

Firstly, I'd like to know, is possible to purchase these older chips from anywhere. Could I purchase them online from AMD directly? I'm in Australia and I'm a bit of a novice at the subject. I'm also wondering which would be the best chip to buy (fastest). The ASUS site lists a number of supported CPU's but doesn't give any indication as to which is faster as far as I can see. Maybe speed ranges from top to bottom?

Any clues on this would be great.

Thanks.

Hello All,

Can someone please tell me what is the FSB of the Athlon 64 or X2 or X4 processors.

I put in 2Gb of DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz memory but they will only operate at 400MHz. I have ASUS Motherboards that offer overclocking but I don't want to use the OC feature to increase the FSB.

5200+ cpu's have from what I can see using CPU-Z; Only a 200MHz Bus speed. and memory is operating at 400MHz only.
same goes for the 5600+ cpu in another computer.

What is the sense in buying fast 800MHz, 1066MHz or 1333MHz memory modules is they will only operate at 400MHz.

Using ASUS's Overclocking feature to increase the FSB from 200MHz to 400MHz also increases the CPU's speed. What crap is this.

AMD does not post the FSB of their CPU's on their specification sheets pretaining to their processors.... AGAIN what is the sense in buying DDR3 fast memory if these processors only operate with a FSB of 200MHz.

Can anyone else confirm what I am saying...

Thanks to all.

I have a Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H mobo with a 5050 cpu. I'm having trouble with the AHCI drivers. It appears that the x86 drivers are installed and I'm not able to get any SMART data from drives on the mobo sata ports. Should I have the x64 drivers installed? If so, how do I get them to install? I tried to update with the x64 drivers, but the driver installer indicated the x64 driver wasn't compatible. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I tried adding the /3GB to the boot.ini file, I've had no luck in the M/B manual trying to find a jumper or some setting to change. Everything I read tells me it should see the RAM but not use all of it. I can't get it to even see it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
