Hi All

I've got an Athlon XP 3000+ 2.16 GHz 333FSBprocessor on an ASUS A7V600 Via KT600 with 2 GB of memory running an Antec power supply with 350 watt output.

My question - is it possible to run this processor faster than the rated 2.16 GHz, and if so how? or is there a faster process that'll fit in that socket? I guess it's currently running at 13X166/33.

Thanks in advance for the help
r

I will be buying the AMD Athlon II X4 630 CPU and I heard the stock heatsink isn't good. I was trying to search for a new HSF, but I couldn't find anything that said its compatible with a AMD Athlon II? Is there other kind of fans that fit or something?

Can someone please tell me what information I'm missing?

Thanks

Hi all, this may require some of you to think back a few years, but I hope someone can help.

Can anyone give me a link to something that definitively says what the settings should be for my processor? Like a manual or AMD web page?

My PC with an Athlon 2800XP processor is still holding on to life after nearly seven years... but for some reason my PC has forgotten the correct processor settings, resulting in a reported speed of 1350Mhz.

(Plus for some reason my graphics card is running at AGP 1.5x, when it should be running at at least 4x - it goes up to 8 in theory).

I've not done this before, but I understand that I'm supposed to adjust the FSB and Multiplier settings. Only thing is, I don't know what the settings should be as the only manual I have (for the motherboard) doesn't say, and I haven't managed to the find the info on the AMD site.

My current settings, according to AMD's Fuzzy Logic software: FSB 100, Multiplier 13.5 = 1350
Motherboard: MSI-6712, KT4V 1.0: MSI Website KT4V page
I guess when I know the settings I can just input them to Fuzzy Logic, right?

Oh, and one more thing: Anyone know if this could be related to power issues?
My power supply has been playing up, perhaps motherboards automatically adjust if there's not enough power to go round?

Thanks,

T

P.S. As I have no idea if there're different models of my processor, here's a pic to help those folk who know these things:

I have win 98 sys and I want to upgrade to XP but only have 9gig c drive partition I need an extra 3-4 gig to fit win XP with my current win98 system. I have tried on a spare drive to increase the drive size fron 8 gig to 13 gig but am unable to restore my backup sucessfully on to this drive and get it to boot up on my computer I have a mobile rack and do set my boot to the desired hhd but it won't boot now ( i did transfer sys files ) I have the delemer of experimenting on my main harddrive and I thought I would ask some one first? I also intend to put another 500 gig drive in I already have one 80 gig one 30 gig and two 40 gig drives an I am wondering what is the best method to partition this drive as well I have partition magic version 7 and the old Fdisk which I could possibly cheat with as I had to when I partitioned my 80 gig drive with it. anyone really experienced with partitioning that can give me some advice I have done it2 etc and had a bit of experience but I am attempting to do somthing I prob shouldn't but I must if I want to save my current system with XP upgrade.
With my 80 gig drive drive c is 9-10 gig and I have a vacant logical drive next to it I want to merge wit it and it should give me about 13-14 gig drive C do you think I will have any problems using partion magic to acheive this?
Thank You Bill.

I just bought a sapphire 4830 Radeon with 1 gig of GDDR3 memory video card and was wondering what you guys think about it ? Is it a good card ?
I'm not a big gamer, but I do play some games once in a while. I mostly will use it to watch TV on my computer and watch video's and dvd's. I got it from the same guy ( my cousin ) I bought my Vista upgrade from. His wife bought him a new computer for his birthday. He only had it in his old computer for 2 weeks. He sold it to me for $40. Was that a good deal for this card ?
If it's not much of a video card, then I will sell it and get something better.
Thanks,

Here is my problem (I hope someone can help):

I recently installed an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (2X200MHz) in my ASUS A7N8X-X mobo. Everything runs just fine under normal conditions. However, when I launch certain games, the system crashes after about 10-15 mins. Other high-demand games run just fine (it actually seems that the lower CPU intensive games have the problems).

I have noticed that if I back the clock speed down to about 175MHz (or less), everything runs great (if a little slow). I believe this is because that is the speed at which the memory defaults to "tighter" timings (i.e. - 7-4-4-3). The RAM that I have installed is kind of cheap (it only supports memory timings of 8-3-3-3 @ 200MHz w/ 1:1 FSB-DRAM ratio).

I have done exhaustive web research on this issue and have run numerous diagnostics to ensure that all of my hardware is performing properly (i.e. - OCCT (CPU, GPU & PSU "stress" tests), memtest, etc.). I have also installed SpeeFan (temperature/voltage monitor) to make sure that everything is running in line with tech. specs. Everything looks good and I have found no obvious errors.

-So, my question for the "experts" is this:

*WILL UPGRADING TO HIGH-PERFOMANCE RAM WITH 'TIGHTER" MEMORY TIMINGS (i.e. - 6-3-3-3 (or better)) FIX THIS PROBLEM?*

I am by no means a computer expert (though my brother who has a C.I.T. degree is close). We have tried everything that we can think of in an attempt to pin down the cause of this instability issue . . . all to no avail! I have exhausted every possible solution that I can come up with and have not been able to fix the problem - I NEED HELP! I am just hoping that someone with some experience and expertise in these matters will read this post and be able to offer some sound suggestions (I am willing to try anything that might work at this point). I just want a decent gaming system that works properly; I can't afford a new one right now.

-Below are my system specifics:

ASUS A7N8X-X ACPI BIOS Rev. 1011
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (2X200MHz)
*PC3200 DDR 400 RAM (1.5GB)*
ATI Radeon X1650 Pro AGP (256MB)
WDC WD800JB-00JJA0 (HDD0)
ST380215A (HDD1)
LITE-ON DVDRW SHW - 160P6S (not used for gaming)
NVIDIA nForce2 400 Chipset

I am running Windows XP Pro and have all latest BIOS (Pheonix - Award) & Driver updates (I think)

*** Also, it is important to note that this system was running well with my previous AMD Athlon XP 2400+ CPU (if a bit slower) *** (all these same games were playable before) ***

-Let me know if you have any further questions or need more information to assess the problem.

-THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS POST - ANY SUGGESTIONS OR SOLUTIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED!-

Asrock don't list the mobile Athlons in the compatibility chart, however, as XP-M's are usually Barton or Thoroughbred cores (and those desktop cores are supported) I am wondering if an XP-M will work.

I am specifically interested in underclocking the 25W or 35W parts - I can get these cpu's off a dealer on eBay for about $30 delivered to the UK. I was thinking of using an XP2200+ in my previous post, but I like the idea of a mobile cpu and underclocking to reduce power consumption for use as a personal server.

Has anyone got experience of this?

TIA,

Nige.

I have an old XP2200 working in an old Epox EPKTA133 motherboard. The board has always been a bit unreliable after I hacked the bios to support the faster XP cpu and I retired the machine last year.

I'm thinking of bringing it out of retirement to use as a server/WHS machine. New skt A boards are rare these days, but I can get one here: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/102909

Does anyone know what sort of power consumption I can expect? Is this worth doing or should I just go and buy something like a Intel Atom mobo (yes....I know!). It would be a shame to skip it - I originally bought the cpu and mobo way back in 2001!

Hello,
I am attempting to squeeze as much power i can out of my Tower. I have recently fitted a satellite PCI card into my tower and i would like to use its high definition capabilities, but i am just a little down on CPU power to enable a good picture without freezing. I am not a gamer, so i have never been that interested in updating my PC to the latest equipment. I am running a Asus A7N8X-E Delux motherboard, with a Athlon XP3200+ cpu. Also i have 3 gb or ram ( 3 x PC3200 (200mhz)) fitted. I would like to possibly see if overclocking is a way that i can get enough CPU power to solve my little problem. I have been told that there is a very good chance that overclocking will help me. Is there anyone who has managed to overclock this combination ?? If so, please can you tell me what combination was used ?? I have looked at the BIOS, but i am not 100% sure what i am doing, so i thought i should ask the experts on this forum.....Many thanks for looking

The motherboard is a ASUS S7N8X-X with a boxed AMD Athlon XP 2700+ installed.

Does this indicate the system will run slower? I am not overclocking and the bios is running with defaults. I did try a few clock changes but the reboot message remains the same.

Does the BIOS require a reload?

The ASUS monitor tool has always shown voltages and temps at normal levels.

I have the most current ASUS BIOS Version, 1010 after checking the ASUS bios page. ASUS has the same version with 8/8/04 vs my 8/4/04.

I am not sure when this started. I didn't record the boot screen when I first built my system, so I can't say for sure what the proc message was the beginning.

I first looked at this when the response was very slow after a reboot. I found few apps that auto start. If I stop them the response is ok but not what I would call screeming fast. I am still tinkering with the services and the app configs to stop these critters. They are nothing extreme just ROXIO's tool main panel, the ASUS monitor and couple of others.

I did commit one stupid move while adding a cd drive. I failed to turn the box off. yup. That scrambled the mb and I "invested" in a local pc shop's efforts to resurrect my system. I passed the reset because I wasn't sure it would do the trick.

Thanks for the help...
