Hi, I have recently built a new PC around the 810 and I downloaded AOD a couple of days ago, and it was showing up only 2 cores. So I started looking around the net, with the help of Google, and found CPUID. So I let that go do it's stuff, and it also tells me I have 2 cores. Device Manager shows up 4, which I think is strange....but anyhow. This is the first PC I've built and I have just loaded the optimized defaults bios. This may be where I've gone wrong, but I need to know what to fix.

Phenom II X4 810
MA780G-UD3H M/B....BIOS F4 (up to date)
4GB DDR2 KINGSTON RAM
ONBOARD GRAPHICS....TILL I GET MY NEW ATI
WINDOWS 7 64 BIT

I hope someone can give me a steer in the right direction.

Thx

I have a 955 BE and according to the BIOS and Windows XP, everything is running up to snuff, but I can't help but notice that it seems to hiccup a lot. I can't really play games, etc. as a result. And I know (and have heard a lot) that this processor should have no issues with games. I also have a GeForce 8800GT, so my graphics card is not the problem either.

I am wondering if maybe my PSU isn't strong enough or if perhaps it's overheating. I'm really not sure. I have a 550W PSU, by the way.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

I realised that my voltage is pretty high for default, its about 1,48-1,5v, temps are about 44-46C. I have M4A78 PRO motherboard, Ace Rawdeal 620w power supply and a Antec 300 case with two intake 120mm fans and two 120mm and 140mm exhaust fans. How can i lower the voltage without losing my warranty?

Hi guys & gals,

System specs:
MB: Foxconn A7DA-S (AM2+) bios P09 (latest)
CPU: Phenom II X4 965 rev. C2
Cooling: Termalright Ultra-120
MEM: 2 x Corsair XMS2 2GB-PC8500
GPU: 2 x HD2900-XT 512MB
Power: Coolermaster M1000 1000w
OS: Windows XP Pro 32-bit

Installed new CPU & cleared the CMOS, booted the system, checked the bios and new CPU was recognized, booted in XP and checked with CPUz whether everything was okay, and it was (3400Mhz, 1.42v). Checked my temps with Core Temp: 39C idle and 51C under load (P95).

Wanted to check the limits of the system to start an OC, so went into bios and decreased the CPU multi and the HT multi to 4x, disabled C&Q, Spread Spectrum & the intelligent fan thingies, and rebooted, but system freezes on XP startup (blue scrollbar). So went back into bios and decreased both only 1 step (16x, 9x), but system freezes again on startup. So I tried different combinations, but system always freezes at the scrollbar, or reboots. I only got into XP when I left the HT multi on auto and only decreased the CPU multi, but whatever I chose for CPU multi, CPUz told me the CPU was running at 800Mhz (4x200) at a Vcore of 1.04v(?).

I think it's actually a MB problem, although the board should be able to handle this. I'm posting here just to make sure it's not a known CPU problem...

Anybody have any ideas?

Hi all,
I have an AMD Phenom 8450 and am running XP sp3.
The problem is that Windows always seem to think that my processor is running at 601 MHz. "My Computer" shows 601, dxdiag shows "~600". Applications that really measure CPU speed, or "AMD Clock" on the other hand show 2100 Mhz for all three processors.

The only relevant setting i could find in BIOS was "C1E configuration", which does not resolve the issue. And I have tried deinstalling/upgrading "AMD ProcessorDriver".

Technical note:
Time measured with QueryperformanceCounter/QueryperformanceFrequency is off by a factor 3.49 (ca 2100/600)

I'd be thankful for any help!

I'm VERY new to Overclocking and as such I'm getting some fairly disappointing results with my 955. I'm hoping someone here can help me out.

First, my rig:

AMD Phenom II X4 955
8 GB G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler
ASUS M4A78 Plus AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
2X Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 (Crossfired)

I can set the modifier on my MB to 17x or 18x and run stable at 3.4 or 3.6 using basic computer functions such as Word, Firefox, Photoshop, Indesign, etc... Even watching video. However I run into a couple of different problems:

1) If I set the modifier above stock and load test the PC with Prime95 it will lock up within 1-2 minutes of starting the load test. Temps are stable in the mid 40s with the cooler.

2) If I set the modifier above stock and try to play a game the computer will lock up within 10 minutes of starting the game. Assume high to max settings on games like MW2, Borderlands, etc... The computer should be able to run these games on high settings and be stable. Again, the temps hover in the mid-40s

3) If I'm at STOCK settings and I don't MANUALLY increase fan speed for my video cards to 60 - 80% games will lock up within 10 minutes or so of starting them.

So, two problems I need to solve:

1) I'd like to OC the processor a little bit. Nothing too fancy. I'd be happy at 3.6 stable in all games, etc...

2) There's something going on with the Video cards. I haven't really touched anything, other than increasing fan speed to play games. Again, I'm not sure why fan speed wouldn't scale automatically.

Like I said, I'm new to OCing and I'd be happy with minimal gains. Anyone have any thoughts or solutions to my problems?

Hey all, new to the forums but not to the processor.

I just installed Win7 and got a new MSI 790fx-GD70 motherboard. The processor is set to run @ 3.8ghz, HTT @ 2400 and NB @ 2400 through the bios. C1E and C&Q are both disabled. I am currently running bios version 1.5 because v1.6 will not post past 3.6ghz under ANY CPU VID setting (I have tried up to 1.4875, according to the bios, a little lower according to CPU-Z). Max temps under OCCT and prime95 I have seen are around 53C (probably will hit 56 or so if the vid cards are under full load also, not sure though as they are watercooled).

Anyways, on to the problem....
I have seen the proc. freq., HTT, and NB all downclock themselves seemingly at random. This is easily repeatable when loading Fallout3, where the processor will always downclock to 3.2ghz, and I have seen the HTT and NB downclock to 2200 once. I checked AMD overdrive, OCCT, and CPU-Z to see if it was just a glitch in one of the programs, but they all say the same thing. Any solutions to this??? There is no point in overclocking if the thing just downclocks back to (near) stock settings each time.

I am currently running Win7, x64, build 7600, version 6.1 (read from regedit), if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Update: Apparently AODassist.exe is the culprit here. Ending the process through the task manager will fix the fluctuations that occur everytime a game is loaded. Anyone know what this process is exactly?

Computer Specifications

- AMD Phenom x4 9850 Black Edition
- ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler
- Biostar TA790GX3 AM2+ Motherboard
- 4GB OCZ Platinum DDR2 1066MHz
- Sapphire HD4850 PCI-E 2.0 512MB
- 2x250GB Seagate Barracuda HD's in Raid 0
- Rosewill 480 Watt PS
- LG Blu-Ray Drive
- Antec 900 Two case

I'm having an issue with my 9850 BE where it's only showing up as running at 12500MHz instead of 25000MHz. My motherboard bios is fairly strange I think. It has automated overclocking and manual overclocking, with the automatic options being V6, v8, and v12. I'm not sure how much each of those overclocks exactly, but I think V8 pushes the processor to 2.85GHz or something like that. There's also a normal mode, which I guess keeps the processor at stock speeds. When I run at normal setting, my processor runs at 125000MHz according to AMD Overdrive and CPU-Z, but if I switch to automatic overclock, for instance the V8 setting, then it appears to show up correctly in the bio's and boot screen, 2.85GHz I think, but in Windows 7 it only shows up as 25000MHz? I read these speeds using CPU-Z and AMD Overdrive. Both showed the same thing. I guess I'm just trying to figure out how to optimize my BIO's for this particular processor, but I think i'm overlooking a few things, just not sure what. I'm pretty new to AMD processors, so any helpful information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Phenom II 940, and built my machine earlier this year, It was working fine up until two weeks ago. I turned it on one night went to log into one of my games, and played for about 30 seconds before the screen went blank. I looked at the side window, and noticed my ATI 4850 based card, had two red lights on. Of course that isn't a good sign. So I took my video card out, and placed a spare one I had. The computer didn't boot. I tested out my 4850 in another machine, it worked fine. I also tested my memory out in another machine, that worked fine too. I RMA'd my motherboard thinking it was broken, and I got it back today, and reassembled my machine, but the same result, the two lights were flashing red on the video card, and I get nothing when I boot it up.

This problem emerged for me when I tried to build a desktop system using an Silicon Image add-on PCI-e RAID controller using a Gigabyte M61PME-S2P mainboard fitted with a Phenom II socket AM3 CPU. HDs are SATA (I tried both SATA I and SATA II with no success). At this writing I can't remember the Silicon Image chip number(s). However, they are current chips available in the Australian parts market.

(I had trouble on another computer's using its built-in SATA ports. After creating a RAID I pair and using them for a couple of years, when their drivers became incompatible with updating Windows the RAID pair degraded into two separate drives and I could not get them back together again! I could not or cannot rely on the RAID drivers provided by the mboard manufacturer remaining valid over time).

This problem has nothing to do with what operating system I am trying to run. It is at the BIOS level of the add-in RAID card. Before I can even run an operating system the card has to be able to talk to the disks!!!

My local parts supplier tried the add-in cards on other mboards and they work if they used Intel CPUs! I think all the Intel mboards which he tried used the Intel chipset. The above mentioned Gigabyte mboard uses the nVidia GEForce 6100 chipset.

Virtually all his other customers use Intel. I'm an odd-man-out here in being determined to use AMD but I may have to give up and default to Intel if this problem can't be solved.

Is this a known problem with the Phenom II CPU? What is the story? Why won't the RAID cards work? Is it a problem of the associated chipsets? My parts supplier tried several different cards eliminating the possibility of faulty cards. He tried another AMD mboard - an Asus model also with no success. Updating the firmware on that mboard made no difference.

So at this point the situation is this - use an Intel mboard and there is not a problem; use an AMD mboard and I can't get any RAID controller to work. I've been stuck at this point since mid-September trying this and that with no progress...

Hi Everyone, I am trying to overclock my Phenom II 940 cpu, to either 3.5 or 3.6 Ghz (since that seems to be around the max that most people seem to be getting with this cpu. At the moment I'm running at 3.3 Ghz with The Cpu voltage set 1.35v, and the NB, SB & Memory set at the default settings.

While I know the max is 62C this chip can handle, the part I'm confused with is which # should I be paying attention so I don't go over the 62C limit or making sure I stay below this # on a stress test.

When I go into the Bios, the CPU Temp will say 39C, so when I boot into Windows & load HWMonitor, I see the following:

TMPIN0 43C
TMPIN1 41C
TMPIN2 49C

CORE1 48C
CORE2 48C
CORE3 48C
CORE4 48C

I read another thread & someone said to take the # that closely matched the bios cpu temp, which in this case would be the TMPIN0/1.

Would this be correct? So in my case am I reading that my cpu temp is in the low 40's?

Thanks

Hello,

I've got a new system for a month now and everything seemed to work fine until last night when my pc went straight from running to black while I was running a game on almost the highest detail in turbo mode, so when I opened the case to check everything I thought it was quite warm, esp my quad core and the powersupply.

So the next morning I installed Everest Ultimate to check the temperature of my processor, it appeared to reach 38-40 C on idle in powersaving mode which shocked me because that seemed way to high and even upto 60 under load.

I'm quite supriced that the temperature reaches so high because I thought it wouln't be any problem with the chassis I bought for it, which is the Thermaltake Thermaltake chassis v9 black edition. I didn't get the optional ventilators, so perhaps this is the problem, but I thought that the rear and top exhaust that came with it were enough(120x120 25mm turbo fan, 230x230 20mm silent fan).

Should I install those front and side ventilators to increase the air flow or should I think about something different?

My setup:
Asus M4A78 Pro
AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition 940, 3040 MHz
2x Kingston 2G-UDIMM
ATI Radeon HD 4870 (RV770)

Thanks in advance,
Jorundr.

Hello,

I just built my first computer and discussed it in other forums before purchasing certain components. Here is what was settled on:

Sapphire HD5750 GPU
Phenom ii x2 550 BE CPU
ASUS M4A79XTD EVO MOBO
Corsair 450VX PSU
Standard DVD Burner
WD 750GB HDD (7200RPM i believe)
All in one Card reader
2x2 DDR3 G-Skill RAM
Smilodon Case (comes with 3 intake fans and 1 out (2x80 and 2x120 speed)

My concern and build history is as follows:

After getting Windows 7 up and running (had to go from XP to a Torrented 7 to legit $30 student upgrade 7 to do so) i hit BSoD twice, but after updating all drivers this problem has yet to happen again (thought i'd share in case it is relevant). I Prime 95 test it and get the:

FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.

I have also had the screen go completely black with thin white pin stripes and i am unable to do anything about it. It froze at the desktop once where my cursor could move but nothing was accessible.

I have now just upped the voltage from stock 1.325 to 1.375 (i believe) using the AOD utility and am running Prime torture test for what has been 35 minutes now without the fail. My cpu core temps are topping at ~42C and the CPU temp is at 45C constant.

Okay thats all the history....could my issue be my PSU? After upping the voltage above stock things seem to be fine but shouldnt it have worked fine without doing so as no stock settings were changed anywhere? The MOBO manual said that i should have no less then a 600W PSU but on Newegg it recommended 450w for 1 GPU and 600W for CrossfireX....which is 2 GPUs (i think i may not have that understood properly). Also no one in the forums when i was first settling on a system caught the PSU concern, in fact the one i settled on was most recommended.

My other minor concern is that none of my case fans plug into the MOBO, just the PSU....i attached them all to a single PSU cable but when i tried to put the end of the PSU cable (with the appropriate 4-pin CHA_FAN1 end) into the MOBO it wouldnt start, but would without that plugged in. Would my case fans adjust if plugged into the MOBO instead of the PSU? They came with MOLEX ends so i had no choice but didnt know if i should change this.

Thanks greatly for taking the time to read this and help me out. I somewhat plan on overclocking my system but need to know if my system is okay as is right now first before even considering it. What temp should i keep my CPU under if i do so? I have read 55C. (stock heatsink and fan BTW)

Again I thank you in advance for your suggestions.

I have been reading about the lock up problems with the 955 processor. My system is doing the exact same thing. For no reason the system just locks up and you get a small amout of static sound and the only way to get out of the freeze is to hard start it. It happens several times a day and it doesn't seem to matter if you are gaming or just looking at a web page. All my temps are fine. I just put this machine together about two months ago and still haven't figured out a fix. Please if anyone has any ideas I would sure appreciate them!

Operating System Windows XP, Version 5.1.2600
Motherboard: ASUS M4A79T Deluxe AM3 DDR3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard
Processor AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor
HD: Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000HLFS 300GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache
Memory: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512
Monitor Vizio 46" HDMI Monitor
Sound_card Creative X-Fi Audio Processor (WDM)
Speakers/Headset Ligitech Surround 5:1 system

Suddenly my cpu makes no sound when working anymore and everything loads more slowly like its tuned down or something. I tested the Amd-fusion tool before that happens. Im on windows xp sp3 i tried settings in bios like disable "qool 'n' quiet and driver changes, energy options. CPU-Z tells me hes doing fine with correct speed.

I cant find the problem.
