Windows 7 hangs for a bit and then only displays a black screen. I can here audio, but no video.

The workaround is to use S1 sleep, which seems to work fine. I saw another post on NewEgg for an Asus board doing the same thing in Vista, so I assumed this is a driver or chipset issue and not a MB issue.

FYI: Media Center works fine until I try to play a video. This would imply this is some sort of issue with hardware acceleration or the DirectShow filter.

It's consistent and repeatable.

Well, what can I say...
I´ve been in the softraid world for something like a decade now and never had an issue like this before...

The drivers that AMD provides isnt "signed" and I dont know who to really blame. M$ who is forcing the driver to be signed in this early installation procedure or AMD for releasing Windows 7 RAID driver unsigned... I mean... how hard can it be?

I mailed Gigabyte since my mother board is the GA-790X-UD4 with a 9950BE and 8 Gb of ram on it and their answer was not so "solving"...

Here is the mail:

<begin quote>I purchased 4 Hitachi Deskstar 1Tb each. Want to run them in RAID 0 on my motherboard. Everything works fine, I making two arrays as I want to (2x2 RAID 0). It is until I reach the harddisk section on the Windows 7 x64 installation CD the problem starts... It wont accept the driver which I have on an USB-stick, says it is "unsigned". I´ve populated all of my SATA, 4 Hitachi 1 TB, one Samsung 500Gb and the last one is another Hitachi at 320Gb. The drivers I tryed with is the ones on your download section but also the ones on AMD´s site, no one works. I am quite familiar with softraid since I been using it for years now but never experienced a problem like this before... Please send me any advice on how to proceed or maybe another driver.

Thank You.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Model Name : GA-MA790XT-UD4P(rev. 1.0) --------------------------
M/B Rev : 1.0 BIOS Ver : F5 Serial No. : Purchase Dealer : -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VGA Brand : Asus Model : N8800GT
CPU Brand : AMD Model : 9950BE Speed : 2600
Operation System : Windows 7 SP :
Memory Brand : Corsair Type : DDRII Memory Size : 8Gb Speed : 2000Mhz
Power Supply : 700W W</end quote>

Their answer:

<begin quote>Hi
You can install the unsigned drivers anyway, it's only a warning. We don't have any newer drivers from AMD/ATI yet.
Best regards GIGABYTE-team Scandinavia</end quote>

Yeah right, "a warning"... I wouldn´t mail them in the first place if I could ignore the "warning"...
So I mailed back...

<begin quote>Hi again.
I am not given the possibility to make a choice here, Windows 7 is telling me that the driver isn´t signed and that´s the end of the installation. No HDD-drives show´s up in the drivers window and therefor it is of course impossible to continue installation....
Hoping for a solution.</end quote>

Waiting their answer again and until then I took the opportunity to write here... Is there SOMEBODY out there running Windows 7 x64 in RAID 0 and if so, How did you manage to install it?

Thanks in advance and excuse me if I sound angry, I´m just so frustrated, companies that make billions cant write a tiny 30kb file right...

I recently built a new system with a Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 motherboard and the northbridge filter driver will not install with the ATI installer. I've tried it several times and I have used the custom option. The system reboots, I run the installer again, and it tells me the northbridge driver is not installed. I'm having a horrible problem with my new Vista x64 machine where it will keep locking up, particularly in a game; I have to manually restart to get the computer running again. I've scanned the memory with memtest and Window memory diagnostic and they found 0 errors. I'm positive it's not my hard drive. That leaves the motherboard or a software issue as the culprit. I'm thinking the NB driver might be the solution, so could someone tell me how in the world I'm supposed to install it?

This system says AMD athlon 64 3400+.

where can i find the chip set driver?

the emachines web site only has the audio driver and the video driver.

my registry got corrupt and i could no longer boot windows and the recovery partition was also corrupt. so i tried to install an OEM XP. but its not recognizing almost any of my hardware, including the ethernet card.

so anyway i called to buy a recovery cd and they told me one is not available. obviously the chipset driver would be in the recovery parttion or cd. but since neither is available can someone please help me find this chip set driver?

thanks

Summation: At this point it appears the drivers for this chip set are causing a chronic failure to resume from S3 and S4 suspend states in windows XP, I would say 90 percent of the time. Does not happen in Win7/Vista/Ubuntu. My purpose for posting here is to discover if there is anyone else that experienced this and if there is another driver I can use besides the ATI driver that is on the asus site. I suspect the drivers since Win7 is using drivers from it's database rather than what is found on asus support so only option left to me is use another chipset/board or re-install XP again leaving the stock drivers in place.

I have a number of motherboards with 790GX and 790FX chip sets. Most of which have provided 1 pcie-16x, 2 pcie-1x slots, and 3 regular pci slots. I am using the 16x slot for a VMIC pcie (4x) 5565 reflective memory card. There is on board ATI video. I am attempting to do direct dma from cards (bus masters) on other buses into an out of this VMIC card. I am able to do writes into this card but cannot do reads. I get the same results using the regular pci slots for my dma originator as I do using the pci-e 1x slots. I can do direct dma writes to the card in the 16x slot but can't do reads????

I can do dma in and out of this VMIC card to/from main memory using it's dma engine no problem.

I have also a number of motherboards with nvidia chip sets with the same basic slot configuration. I have no problem with this using these MBs.

Why can't I do bus to bus dma reads out of this card in the 16x slot?

Any pointers would be appreciated.

I have a Gigabyt MA785GPMT-UD2H motherboard with the SB700 southbridge and a SATA RAID mirror of two drives. I was able to install XP onto this fine but when I reboot, XP sees that both drives have the same signature (they are mirrored so that makes sense I guess) and gives one of them a new signature. This breaks the mirror and XP assigns a new drive letter to it.

Why is this happening and how can it be fixed?

Thanks,

Steve

I have two Gigabyte MA785GPMT-UD2H motherboards with the SB700 Southbridge. I have set up on with RAID 1 and installed Windows XP64 on it plus a bunch of software. Now I want to break the mirror, and move one drive over to the other machine and set that up with RAID 1 too. I have broken the mirror and rebuilt the first machine mirror and that went fine. Now I want to make sure that when I move the drive to the new machine it picks it up fine.

...

Spoke too soon. The RAID 1 rebuild finished fine but then I rebooted and it went critical again. Looking in the event log, it looks like Windows wrote a new signature on the drive which broke the mirror.

Going into the RAID ROM after bootup if I look at the Drive Assignments, one disk is set to LD 2-2 and the other disk is "Single Disk". Why wouldn't they both be part of the LD?

So, what is the proper way to do this? That is, add a drive back into the array? Documentation is very lacking. Or is there a good resource for this information somewhere that I just haven't found?

As for going to the new machine, I think I just need to set it up as RAID 1 and tell it to not initialize the drives. Is that all there is to it?

Also, later on down the road, if the motherboards crash or something, will it be possible to just use these drives as JBOD drives and be able to boot from them as single drives, or at least be able to get the data off of them as a single, non-RAID drive?

Thanks,

Steve

So yes i'm a really sick perfectionist :-)

Now the m4a78t-e chipset thing is driving me crazy

On the Asus website i will find a 300 mb file (outdated) installer.
My Mainboard is an ASUS M4A78-E which uses the 790GX/SB750 chipset and have been having a peculiar issue. I have 3 hard drives attached to the board, a Hitachi 160gig SATA 3.0, Hitachi 160gig EIDE and a Samsung Spinpoint F Series 1TB model HD103UJ. Both of the Hitachi drives work flawlessly and the Samsung does as well, until I restart the system. From a cold boot (Power unplugged and residual energy drained) all drives are recognized, after a restart the Samsung is no longer found in the Bios. I have updated to the latest bios revision (1404) and have tried using different ports and all have the same result. I know that the drive is reliable because I have tested it in two different systems (non-790GX/SB750) and it has zero issues. I was wondering if there was a known problem with this chipset and 1TB+ hard drives or Samsung drives in general? I was also wondering if running 2 of these hard drives in a RAID format might trick the system into recognizing the drives more consistently. Any help would be appreciated.
