I'm a C++ Software Developer and my question is related to compatibility of AMD and Intel CPUs when 'mfence' instruction is used in an application designed and implemented for Intel CPUs in the first place.

I've read that some older AMD CPUs do not support that instruction. Is that correct?

Could you provide as much as possible information on which AMD CPUs did not support 'mfence' instruction? How many years ago was it?

Are there any references I could look at on AMD web-site, like links to docs, C++ or ASM examples?

Could you provide some tips for implementing programming solutions on older AMD CPUs when 'mfence' instruction is not supported.

Best regards,

If I connect the display to IGD, no signal.

After I remove HD6570 and reboot the system, 6530D works properly(connect to LCD). and 512MB memory is allocated for IGD(3.48G available)
So, the PCIE graphic card and integrated gpu can not be recognized simultaneously.
I am at a loss, so asking here finally.

Almost 2 years ago I got a (MSI) 785 board with discrete HD4200 - was a great card. I use it with my TV - 42" Insignia 1080p. [hdmi] OS: WinXP,Ubuntu,Win7

I wanted some more horsepower so I recently got a (MSI) Radeon HD6770. From that point, using the MSI drivers on CD, as well their website I noticed I was only able to use a 60hz option with 768p and lower resolutions. Going higher (and the options were weirdly limited), I could only use higher resolutions at 30hz.

I since have tried all the AMD Catalyst drivers (v12 series) and repeatedly have the same limited options. Though, with the latest 12.7 beta I can also choose 29hz as well 30hz, but to no avail 60hz @ > 768p.

In the Vision Center control panel, I see my TV edid reports "1080p - max refresh: 70hz"

I have in the past few days tested this on both xp32-sp3 and win7-64. Same issue exactly.

I thought perhaps my psu was culprit, so I knew my psu was old and couldn't remember its max output, I upgraded to 650w. Same issue.

I even thought to try another HDMI cable. Same issue.

I am desperate for resolution, I can't find any details on the net regarding this scenario.

Any further info requested is available. I just don't know where to begin.

http://imgur.com/a/QuK80

Hi All,

Just purchased a new MOBO / memory & APU as below to replace my ageing rig.

I need dual monitors running as I use the rig as a Karaoke / DJ. In my old giga board I output via the VGA port to Karaoke screens the DVI to my screen.

Problem is no matter how I config this board, I can not get it to see two monitors plugged into the VGA & DVI ports. I know if I enable dual DVI output in the BIOS it disables ALL the other ports, but when I do this I get a max resolution of 860 which can not be changed. If I disable the Radeon driver and use the stock Windows 7 driver I can get full range of resolution !.

I disable the BIOS dual DVI option and the board will not see the DVI monitor but will see it if I plug it into the VGA port.

First system I have built with the FM1 footprint.

Only one Radeon 6550 is showing in device manager... shouldn't there be two?

Is this a fault on the APU or have I over looked something?

Main Hardware Information:
CPU AMD 3870K 3GHz Socket FM1 4MB L2 Cache Retail Boxed Processor
RAM Kingston 2GB DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Blu Memory CL9 1.65V (x2)
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-A75M-UD2H A75 Socket FM1
Video Card Non
PSU 300w

Other Hardware Information :
Monitor Acer P233W
HDD/SSDs Samsung 80GB SATA
Optical Drives

Software Information:
Operating System : Windows 7 x64
Video Card Drivers in Use ( and tried ): MOBO Driver CD (Latest Catalyst)
Motherboard Drivers Used: MOBO Driver CD
System clean of viruses / spyware etc: Clean Install
Other things tried: Valium - for frustration

Just recently Administrative Events in Win 7 (64) at start up has been showing the following error:

"The AODDriver4.1 service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified."

I didn't find anything at these forums, but a google search turns up several people reporting this elsewhere, with some rolling back to 12.1 driver, but no answers from AMD. Consensus is some QA oversight mistake at AMD. Anyone have more information or another suggestion?

Update: Found a fix at http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/...-7000-aoddriver4-error (see last post).
Hi!
Thought I'd report a 'little' bug I've experienced: SATA driver version 1.2.1.317 works fine with my eSATA HDD, but if I install 1.2.1.321 or 1.2.1.327 => Win7(x64) doesn't see any eSATA connections at all.
This is on my Acer Travelmate 5530G laptop coupled with a DeLock 42465 enclosure containing a Hitachi TravelStar 7K500. My internal storage is an OCZ Vertex2 120GB (the reason I've tried the AMD driver is to improve performance, now that TRIM is supported not only by MSAHCI driver).
Does anyone have an idea what could've been introduced in the later versions of this driver? I've read something about eSATA and PMP in other topics, but I'm not certain there's a connection with my case.

I installed catalyst 12.1 chipsetdriver for my old Asus M3A78 board (SB7xx chipset), and got a bsod upon booting again.

I ended up changing to IDE mode to be able to boot at all.. uninstalled the AMD drivers completely and enabled MS ahci driver, but now i still bsod whenever i use AHCI mode in the bios.

I have also tried to install an older (11.11) ahci driver, but to no avail. As soon as i enable AHCI mode in bios, the computer only boots with a bsod.

This has been disgussed in a few other places, and seems to be a problem with SB7xx chipsets and the new 12.1 ahci driver, but my main problem is that im in no way able to start the computer with AHCI mode AT ALL.
Good day every one,

I'm posting a topic on a problem I'm experiencing with the E450 APU in combination with a AMD Radeon HD 6470 M.
I tried to run Fable 2 on low settings, but I would only get 20 FPS.
It really felt as if my HD 6470M with 1 GB dedicated Ram wasn't kicking in, switching from the integrated graphics.
Also, I can not find drivers for the APU Fusion E450 any where.

Has any one else experienced the same problems? Honestly my
card should easily be able to play Fable II I've seen people run Modern Warfare 3 on the same specs as my laptop.

I have a Packard Bell Easy Note LK, with 6 GB Ram and a AMD Dual Core E450 with HD 6470 M graphics.
On a side note though, games only detect the integrated graphics; 6320 Series integrated graphics.
I tried running a DxDiag to see if it recognized the Dedicated Vram but it only recognized my video card as 256 MB clocked at 500 MHZ.

Does any one know a solution to this, or some thing I can try?
I tried installing several different versions of Catalyst including those provided by my OEM, but they do not provide drivers for the APU either.

Im kind of clueless as to what I should do, every thing else works fine just not my 3D capabilities.

Awaiting any responses, thanks in advance!

The rebuild stops at 1% and drops the array (goes offline). At this time I cannot access the data on the drives. I don't know what to do next and am in a bit of a panic. I'm trying to research this and have come up empty handed besides to delete all, and build a new raid array. Goal here is to save the data, not start from scratch.

1.
If AMD read fine if they don't I made my part.

Intel besides triple channel will soon launch serial channel memory architecture, meaning 1 channel per memory slot and that won't stop with 4 channels, so AMD better don't think that their quadruple channel tech is going to be enough.

Make CrossFire cards to work as a single multi-core, memory-shared video subsystem, without duplicating the 3D application in video memory. IMHO that duplicates bandwidth on the PCI-E bus. Why not unify all video cards (GPUs+Memories) in a single logical subsytem so GPUs can cooperate and work on the same application and simply each video card memory would increase the video memory addressable space, will improve performance helping each other and since the data is not duplicated for each video card efficiency would be even greater.

Design a way that SMBus hardware can monitor the buses (Memory channels, PCI-E, Hyper-Link, South Bridge, etc) transfer rates so system monitoring apps can see how well is the system performing and where bottle necks are. Also to detect how many unattended request have been lost because of the bottle necks. Rating could be evaluated to replace PC components for others that would have a rating to fit the need of that system to perform without any lag.

Why is the North-Bridge 16-bit wide? why not 128-bit wide? this width has been sustained since for ever, I don't understand it.

Latest Chipsets dedicate 32X to the PCI-E Bus, no matter how many slots it has, why not give each graphics PCI-E slot 16X, since today max is 4 why not make the Chipsets give 64X to run each PCI-E graphic slot @16X?

Why only 2 separate GPUs in latests AMD graphics cards? why not multi-core GPUs on a single video card? I thought by now AMD would have launched 2 GPUs with 4 cores each... why are GPUs not following CPUs pace? the latest ATI card has only 2 GPUs as a big deal...

Is there any work on progress about this ideas? they're not revolutionary at all so they should have been implemented long ago, I'm a Electronics Engineering student and I thought about them, I'm sure AMD Engineers have and even better ideas, have they? so why they don't implement those ideas?...

Hi,

I recently contacted AMD tech support because I was (and still am) unable to find drivers on AMD's website for the A75 chipset and the integrated GPU of an A4-3400 APU, both are not listed in the support&drivers menu.

AMD tech support redirected me to the manufacturer of the motherboard, which to me sounds weird since my experience with motherboard manufacturers is that they only release (sometimes seriously) outdated drivers.

Is there any way I can get more recent drivers somehow (if they are available of course) or am I supposed to be depending on Gigabyte for this?

With regards,

Bart Grefte
