Hi,

Well, the problem I'm running into is, I can't seem to get the HDMI output working on my computer. I'm primarily trying this with my TV, which is a Philips PFL6704D.

EDIT: I should mention, I am running Windows 7 RTM (release to manufacturing)

I am Running:

MSi 790FX-GD70 Motherboard

AMD Phenom II X4 945

MSi 4890 Cyclone OC

4gigs DDR3 Ram

750 Watt PSU

Catalyst 9.7 downloaded from ATI website.

When I turn on my TV, the card detects it, and in properties, shows me that I have 2 displays. Then, on the TV, when I select "Input: HDMI" it says no signal found (on TV) and the video card says there is only 1 display, even though physically everything is still connected the same.

If I plug in only the TV over HDMI and no monitor and boot up, I see everything fine on the TV till Windows is completely booted up, and then it goes back to saying "no signal" on the tv.

If I boot up in safe mode, the display remains the whole time, even while windows is booted. This makes me wonder if it is a driver issue.

Scenario 1:
TV is off, Computer starts up in Win 7.
Turn on TV
Computer Detects TV over HDMI, 2 displays are displayed in settings
Set TV to appropriate HDMI input
Computer screen flickers as display's are changed
Then Computer screen recovers, TV says "No Source Found" on hdmi
There is only one display in display settings, though physically everything is still connected

Scenario 2:
Boot up with only TV connected through HDMI
Display is present all the way up until Windows is fully loaded, then goes back to "No Source Found" on hdmi input

Scenario 3:
Boot into Safe Mode with only TV connected through HDMI
Everything works fine.
Haven't tried this situation with both monitors connected.

If you could take sometime to help out, that we be awesome.

Just had a go on my {POS} 32" with Hdmi.... worked perfect

Do you have both monitors enabled?... are you cloning your display?, as this could set your resolution to high for your tely.

Detect displays, enable dual monitors, make sure your resolution is set to the right amount pixels for each monitor/tely.... i.e 1680x1050 for your monitor and im guessing 1920x1080 for that lovely phillips.

Just things to check, also have you tryed swaping the cables and using the tely as the primary ??

It doesn't detect the TV when the TV is on the appropriate input.

Say I connect my hdmi cable to Port 1. When I turn on the TV and it is using Port 2, the TV will detect it initially. then I will switch the TV to port 1, and it will no longer be detected, and even switching back to port 2 won't bring it back up again.

When I try to use the TV as primary, it displays everything (bios, boot up, etc) all the way till windows loads up completely (or the video driver loads up, i assume) and then the TV says "no signal from source"

I did partition my harddrive using partition magic, and installed XP. With XP, I haven't run into any problems, and it's worked fine, so I know the hardware is properly hooked up. Just not sure what the issue with Windows 7 is.

Well this is interesting. I purchased a Sapphire 4890 today, so out came my GTX 260 and in it went. Now I have been using the GTX 260 on my 32" Sony for the last 3 months via HDMI with no probs and I use the Sony as my only display. Anyway, I installed the 4890 earlier, formatted and installed the RC on Win 7 (Same as I was using before) and all was going well, until I installed the video driver. Instantly no picture, so I rebooted . . Post screen was there, Windows loading screen was there, switched into windows and no signal. I decided to hook up an old monitor to see what I could do, trouble was, Windows 7 with the Ati drivers in (9.7) couldnt even see my TV. Now the GTX actually saw the Sony and even reported back the model number.

Now I can see the screen in safe mode on my Sony via HDMI but boot it normally and it just doesnt work. I have now gone back to Vista 32 and it works perfectly but this defeats the issue. Windows 7 is getting close and I have it preordered and this issue does concern me slightly. Does anyone know of this or is there a fix available?

I haven't been able to find a fix. You're the first person I've run into that has had the same problem.

For right now, I went back to XP so that I can use both the TV and my monitor. I don't know what the issue is, But I would be very intersted in getting a fix for it.

Hey :-)

Well I have done soooo much googling about this and we are definately not alone. Like I said, went back to vista and it works perfectly, no probs at all. Im gonna try again later with the new cat 9.8's in Windows 7 so will repot back here with my findings. If I cant find a fix Ill just have to go with Vista x64 until there is one I guess. It is a pain though, my brother bought a gtx 285 yesterday so we tried that and it worked straight off.

That would be awesome if you could let me know if the 9.8's work. I'm out of town this weekend, so I won't be able to try anything till monday anyway.

I posted this in 3 different forums. I'm glad you came around, haha.

My googling skills must need work

I'd be interested to know if your "no pictrure over HDMI" problems go away if you install Catalyst 9.1 or 8.12 instead.  They should work on Windows 7.  (For an HD4550, 7 ships with an 8.12ish driver).

I'd also be interested to know if you replace the ATI AVI->HDMI dongle with a generic one (if you have one, of course) if it makes a difference in the behavior.  (You lose audio and pixel format with a generic dongle, just wanting to know if it stops your systems from going into la-la land once the ATI drivers take over during startup)

This problem sounds extremely familiar to the problems I've had with HDMI since 9.2, but manifesting with no picture instead of the wrong output format.

I can try those drivers out, and let you know. However, I have an HDMI port, no DVI to hdmi converter on my video card. I could try the hdmi connection with the DVI port that is present on the video card though. I can see if I have one.

Hi Ratmelon, sorry for the delayed reply.

Well, I have tested about evrything I can possibly test. I have tried Windows 7 RC and Windows 7 RTM with all Cats 9.4 and above with my 4890 and my friends 4890 and no joy at all. Exactly the same problem with each, gets to the point where it switches to windows and it loses signal. Now I then tried Both versions of Win 7 with a GTX 260 and a GTX 285 and no problems. Like I said before, windows even has the name and modelof the TV in devices. So after several formats I went to Vista X64 and 9.8 Cats and low and behold, no problems at all. The Radeon works perfectly. I do hope they can sort this before Windows 7 release as I do prefer it as an OS and I have it preordered but at least Vista X64 is working fine.

:-)

Im too having this problem with 4350, 4870, 4870 X2 + Phillips 32" + windows7. My nvidia 8800GT worked perfectly, so its ovious that ATI's driver is at fault here. I hope they will fix it soon or I have to sell my 4870 X2 to get a Nvidia

Well you guys are not alone with the problem.

I cant even get tv out via DVI -- HDMI dongle to work in POST..

Windows 7 reacts by rescanning for devices when i connect and side of the cable but refuses to recognize the tv att all.. I have tried reinstalling to win vista and it works without flaw. I sure home ATI have a serious (or microsoft ofcourse) look att this as for me its a big problem...

If its not working at POST then its nothing to do with the drivers as they are not loaded then.

I have figured as much through various sources on the net but the only change that has been made is installing windows 7. I was even watching a movie over the computer to my hdtv and a friend called me and convinced me to give win 7 a go. After installing the new O/S .... nothing...   cables have not been moved, nothing new installed except windows 7 and 9.8.

Reverted back to windows vista and everything works fine. So in my opinion that rules out hardware defects..

The annoying thing is that i can "see" that CCC reloads and looks for the tv when i disconnect/reconnect the cable just doesnt find anything.

Oh btw..

HD 3870

Using premium hdmi cable connected to original DVI ---> HDMI dongle.

Just thought i would report in and tell you guys that in my case a new 3rd party DVI - HDMI connector fixed my no signal problem.

Oh and i can tell you ATI guys that i tried a brand new original supplied connector that my local shop lent me from one of their cards (brand new never opened) and the problem continued on that one aswell.  Odd thing though is both the ATI original dvi -- hdmi connectors work in windows vista but  NOT in windows 7. Strange that.

Hope this solves the issue for some of you..

@Vonaberg.

Thanks for the tip.  I was having a similar problem (though with a Radeon 2600 XT).

Setup was HDMI from PC to TV, with TV as the only display.  Worked without a problem with Vista.  Windows 7 not so much.  The DELL splash screen and Windows loading show up fine and then the signal drops on the TV after that.

I also picked up a 3rd party DVI to HDMI converter as you suggested (got mine from Monoprice).  This fixed the video problem (whereas playing around with various versions of drivers did nothing).

However, sound via HDMI is a no-go.  It looks like ATI made a special connector for the adapter so that they could pass sound from DVI to HDMI.  However, this special adapter doesn't seem to be able to pass any signal on Windows 7, though a regular adapter works fine for video.

So I'm stuck with passing audio through SPDIF for now.  I have a feeling all this will take is a Windows update or ATI driver fix to get it working back the way it was under Vista.
