My 5870 runs great, but there are plenty of issues so far.  Strangest that I noticed was when I use the Overdrive tool to take my card up to 900/1300 my windows experience for graphics goes down a full point!  Another biggie is there is no HDMI scaling control in the CCC.  This wouldn't be an issue if it weren't for the fact that my screen has a half inch wide black border around it.

There is HDMI overscan / underscan, use the search function as this has been answered lots of times

As for the lower WIE, I guess you dont understand that the card has parity and retry transmission on memory errors.  If your card cant do the higher clocks in a stable state with without errors then the card has to resend data when it detects an error.  My card has 7.7 as the score for regular speed and overclocked.

I eventually decided to buy a 5870 but before doing so I have a plenty of questions which I hope will be asnwered.

1: What's the length of the card? (I have a relatively small PC chassis)
2: Though I think it should not be a problem but still I have to ask if my FSP Everst 500W 80 PLUS will be enough?
3: I'm a bit worried that my PhenomII 905e @ 3.25GHz would bottleneck this gfx card... :S If it's needed I can oc my PhenomII to 3.4 or with higher volateg maybe even to 3.6-3.8 but I don't really want to... (now the voltage is: 1.264) What do you guys think?
All your aswers are greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

PS: My current cfg is: Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P rev1.0, 4GB Kingstone hyperX DDR3 1600MHz @ 1333MHz, Sapphire 4890 OC 1GB

1) 11.1 Inches

2) Should be OK but that depends entirely on the quality of the PSU

3) Faster CPU's are always required for CPU limited situations

Win 7 Ult x64 RTM - Fresh load 10/01/09

The only problem I've noticed so far one with the mouse cursor. It'll randomly explode to four times it's normal size, and remain that way until reboot. It started happening after I installed the 9/22/09 "recommended" beta release Catalyst drivers for Win 7 x64.

There's a thread about it going over on Microsoft's Technet here: http://social.technet.microsof...4b92-9927-374aac7ab3be

I've been seeing the same issue with the mouse cursor since upgrading to the 5870 (with the 9.10 rc6 driver from the ATI drivers site).  Interestingly enough, when it happens, it doesn't always affect ALL of the mouse cursors right away.  I had it affect the arrow and the wait cursor, but not the resize cursor (though a minute or so later that one went as well, and they all were wrong).

Adjusting the resolution back and forth makes no difference.  Changing the mouse cursor set selected makes no difference (though, choosing the "extra large" cursor set with this bug up makes for one Really Big cursor!).  Opening the magnifier in full screen mode makes the cursor go back to normal, but ONLY while the magnifier is open and running.  Rebooting cures it for a while (but sleep/wake up does not).

I have similar specs:

Win 7 Ult x64 RTM - Recent install
Phenom II 940 @3.0GHz

Powercolor 5870 @stock speeds, has happened while at the desktop (157Mhz gpu / 300Mhz memory) and while playing games (850Mhz gpu, 1200Mhz memory)

Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3

8GB DDR2 @ ~800MHz

WD Caviar Black 640G
Antec Earthwatts 500

Official driver support will start at 9.10 finals so I'm not sure you should be posting anything here as the drivers you have will probably not support your card or be buggy. Wait for the official drivers.

These are the official drivers for the 5870. (or at least, these are the drivers that came with the card, and are also the drivers that are available for download from ATI's site for the 5870)

I just did a search on the site and it said there were no results found for the HD 5870 for any OS. Did you get them from the card maufacturers website?

Okay, you say ATI drivers site, which site is that?

Oh, apparently there are rc7 drivers available from MSI, have you tried these?

The actual driver page is:

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/ATIRadeonHD5800seriesrecommendedgraphicsdriver.aspx

but you can get there from:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

(select Windows7/64bit -> Radeon -> Radeon HD 5800 Series -> Go!)

Haven't tried the RC7 drivers yet, will give it a shot.

Hopefully they'll work a little better than rc6,  and final release will come soon. Seeing as the cards are out already it shouldn't be long.

That's the exact driver I'm using now.

I've found a workaround, although it's potentially annoying. Enable mouse pointer trails.

I've had a mouse cursor corruption issue, but only with Eyefinity enabled and it is entirely random when it occurs.

Still occurs with RC7 - but turning on mouse pointer trails does make it not occur while the trails are on (turning them off, it goes back to supersize again).  At least setting the trails as short as they go makes it not quite so annoying.  Looking forward to the release driver!

Far Cry 2 crashes after the splash screen. The Benchmark tool works fine, but the map editor also will not start. I have tried every known fix for similar issues but nothing works yet. I have submitted a ticket with UBISoft, will post back after they respond. Otherwise Crysis is running super nice, so is UT3, CoD WAW, TF2, and SFIV (All maxxed at 1680x1050 except Crysis).

I've only tried a few games. Been installing games all afternoon and night.

    World of Warcraft
- Dalaran (High populated area, for those who don't know) VSync on (60FPS Cap)
Everything Maxed @1920x1080 (8x multisampling, shadows, literally everything)
Low: 24 FPS
High: 60 FPS
Average: Highly dependant on environment - totally playable, though.

    Street Fighter IV Benchmark
- Built in stress test.
Everything Maxed @1920x1080
Low: ~60FPS
High: ~130FPS
Average: 92.47FPS
Screenshot: At Photobucket

Half Life 2 - Lost Coast
- Built in stress test.
Everything Maxed @1920x1080
Overall Report: 212FPS

More Win7 x64 problems..

HD Video brings my machine to it's knees. Anything including and above 1280x720 causes the display adapter to become unresponsive. This is with Windows Media Player and VLC Media Player.

Battleforge crashes. Not good for the first DirectX 11 game available.

No issues for me with HD video or any crashing problems with Battleforge (Well not since the hotfix the game devs of Battleforge released yesterday)
