if you have time, try running the crysis benchmark  at  1920x1200 8xaa (verry high) then post your results

is that the highest you  can push your 940 be ? push it harder !! it will let that card breath !

I just did some Crysis benches last night.  Here's what I got:

GPU Benchmark looped 99 times (testing for stability)...

1920 x 1080 DX10 4xAA (supersample forced via CCC) Very High + Custom config (slight variation from HP Config)...

2 XFX 5870's in CF @ 900/1265 1.175v temps under 70(C) custom fan profile

These are average scores from 99 runs:

min frame: 30.31

avg fps: 45.10

max frame: 56.01

im sure theres lots of room for improvement in the drivers  , cause i get those results with my setup !  except i run at 1920x1200

apparently  theres no  need to upgrade yet !

dagimp16 was that test run with your i7 at 4.4 ghz ?

I changed my mind..   this time around i thought i would try 2 separate cards instead...   besides, they run cooler if only one GPU.  The x2's were always relly hot and fans always audible.

I can try Crysis on very high this afternoon and post.

Oh. and yes, it is a Sapphire.

yep, my test was run on the system in my signature at those settings.  So what your saying is that your 4890's in CF OC'd are producing the same frame rates as my 5870's OC'd?!?!  If that's the case, WOW!! I am upset, and then not....  I upgraded from 2 3870x2's and loved it! But if i'm only getting CF OC'd 4890 performance that would be a waste of money!  hopefully the driver updates turn out to be like they were with the 3870x2's.  Over the time I had them (over 1 year) their performance more than doubled due to driver improvements.  I hope they do the same with this new generation of cards.

yup that is what i'm saying !i'm sure performance will increase, it allways does .

i'm sure it was a nice performance boost coming from dual 3870x2's

did you run the test in windows 7 or vista ?

Ok ..  Here are my Crysis results @ 1920x1080 ( can't do 1920x1200 ) Very High Spec :

4xAA    Min 14fps    Avg   32fps   Max 37fps

8xAA    Min  19fps   Avg   30fps   Max 36fps

I have gotten my 940BE @ 4Ghz but can't get it stable
Got 3.9 Stable but insane voltage needed
3.6 gor me is the sweet spot as far as voltage/temp for everyday use.

@ steveo_crossfire

I'm having trouble swollowing this.
Are you saying that your 2 x 4890's can keep up with 2 x 5870's ?

No offence dude, but can you run your tests again ?
Your results are contradicting every benchmark out there..

ok here are the results  (1920x1080  2x aa  high  settings)

min  33.25    avg 64.91     max  89.54

@ steveo_crossfire

Your results remind me of my 2 3870x2's performance in game. Watching the displayinfo my frame rates were averaging ~35fps, but the lows were around 12fps and the highs 90+fps!  Crysis is definetly a new game now.  I played with the same settings minus the AA and it was a bit choppy, still playable for me, through the whole game.  Oh yeah, the visuals (particles, textures, physics, etc.) are OUTSTANDING on these 2 5870s!  No comparison to the 4 3870 GPUs I was using.   Off note, I am using Windows 7 for these tests and everything else I do on my computer.

I also benched RE5 DX10:

all settings maxed, no vsync, unlocked frame rate, 8xAA, 1920 x 1080

average about 150fps through fixed benchmark

~150fps in scenes 1, 2, 4 in the variable benchmark

scene 3 did see 60fps at the low point and an average about 120fps once it gets going through the scene.

WTF !?!?!?  My 5870 is getting a flogging !!

Can someone explain this ?   I think i'm gonna be sick ...

No seriously, can someone explain this to me ?   All the reviews put the 5870 well ahead of the 4890.   Were they using some magic drivers or something ??

Remember he's got 2 4890's and they are overclocked.  I'm sure you and I will benefit from future driver updates more so than those 4890's.  It looks like you are getting performance that's just a tad under 2 overclocked 4890's with only 1 5870.  Don't worry, you have a good card.

Thanks for the morale boost dagimp16..

I just cracked my cpu to 3.9Ghz and ran the benchmark again:

High Spec, 2xAA  1920x1080  and i have the exact same results as 3.6Ghz.

Shouldn't it have increased ?

Sounds to me like your CPU @ 3.6 is plenty for 1 5870.  You might notice a difference between 3.6 and 3.9 when your second card comes in, but I'm not too sure.  My system scored the same GPU score in vantage at 4.2 Hyperthreading vs 4.4 no Hyperthreading.  I also tested crysis and it only uses 4 cores.  So I figure I'll let 4 cores run as fast as they can, screw hyperthreading, I'm gaming.

@ neo5555:  Are you seeing white dots in the dark shadows in Crysis?  I have 'em even at stock clocks!  I know it's not the temps (always under 70C).  I also notice a few other people have the same problem, hopefully better drivers will fix that.
