I just installed Windows 7 RC build 7100 on my desktop and tried to setup MCE using the ATI 650 USB. I installed the latest Vista driver by manually updating the driver through Windows Update. I now experience two problems: 1) During the TV scan, it only correctly sets up the analog tuner. MCE incorrectly recognizes the other tuner as ATSC instead of QAM. 2) When I try to play Live TV, I get nothing - just a black screen. No audio...
Has anyone successfully setup the ATI 650 USB tuner with a recent version of Windows 7? I've having this problem with pretty much every recent build since the first Beta.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks. |

Which release of ati drivers did you use? |

I used the latest drivers (9.4) that are available from this website. |

I'm using the USB 600 and I cannot even get the drivers to install. It worked fine on Windows 7 Beta 1 but RC 1 will not install the drivers. I've tried both the x64 and now the x86 version of the RC. I also used the drivers for Vista but it didn't work on RC1 like it did on B1. |

Nevermind, I was able to get it to install correctly by running the setup file located: C:\ATI\Support\9-4_vista32-64_t600usb_wdm\Packages\Drivers\WDM\TVW_HSUSB For some reason the installer didn't install that when I downloaded it like it has in the past! |

@Griffeycom: Are you using Windows 7 RC? If so, what happens when you do the TV setup in Media Center? Does it properly recognize the tuner and configure everything? Also, are you able to actually watch Live TV? I tried your recommendation and it still did *not* work for me (ATI USB 650)! I'm at a loss because I really don't know what to do here. It's no wonder this product has poor reviews on websites like Best Buy... Edited: 05/07/2009 at 10:08 AM by juggy |

I'm having the same problem with this card in windows 7. I'm running 64-bit windows 7... It does the channel scan (takes for ever) and when I goto view "live tv" it's just a blank/black screen. Anyone know how to get this to work? |

Hey I got it to work!! I just installed the new catalyst package 9.5 - 9-5_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu
I also checked "Force TV detect" and "Force Component Video detection" in Catalyst Control Center--- thats located under the Display Options tab |

Can anyone even get the driver to work properly? I have Windows 7 RC x64 and have installed almost every vista64 driver from version 8.7 to the current 9.5. In every case it says the ATI Unified AVStream device driver cannot start (code 10). There were two drivers that did start, (9.3 and 8.something) but they would cause blue screens. I'm using a Diamond ATI TV Wonder 650 Combo USB |

Has anyone tried the new 9.7 Catalyst drivers on an RTM install? I was wondering if it's finally worth making the movie as I'm still using WinXP MCE with (2) ATI 550 tuners. But I was hoping to go to Win7 with (2) ATI 650 USB tuners, thus giving me a total of 4 tuners - 2 QAM and 2 NTSC. |

I did just install the 9.7 drivers and Media Center on the 32-bit Windows 7 RTM. It is not completely working for me. I can watch off air ATSC, but I cannot record it. When I start recording, the display goes black, and only a broken 4KB mpg file is written to disk. I can however both watch and record analog cable. I've sent a support request to ATI and will hope for the best. |

I installed version 9.7 and have the same behavior as what you described earlier with the ATI BDA Digital Tuner being detected and not configured with one caveat. The Analog tuner is found as an Analog "Cable" tuner. I then found that the 9.8 drivers had been released so I "upgraded" to that version. The Digital Tuner is still shown as an ATI BDA Digital Tuner (And not configured), but the Analog Tuner is now shown as an Analog "Antenna" tuner not "Cable", so we have taken a slight left turn with the new drivers. With both 9.7 and 9.8 my 650 does not show up in the CCC, so I cannot try the suggestion of the forced tv detect mentioned by quackduck. The CCC only shows my ATI Video card. Does anybody know how to get the 650 to show up in the CCC when you also have an ATI video card? markh aka oneobserver |

Just wondering if anyone has any updates on this topic. I've installed many drivers, but I still seem to get my 650 USB to work in Windows 7. In Windows Media Center, in the TV Settings I can see the signal strength for the various channels in my area, so it is apparently able to tune the device. However, when I try to watch live TV, I get the no signal message. Does anyone know if they are planning to put out a Windows 7 driver in the near future? |

I recently created a support ticket with AMD to address the issues I have experienced with my USB TV Wonder 650 with Windows 7, and a few days ago, after a few messages back and forth, I finally received a response on this matter. There is apparently no current plan to develop Windows 7 drivers for the 650-based tuner devices. Only the 750-based devices (which I believe do not yet exist for sale) will have Windows 7 support. I expressed my dissatisfaction with this decision, of course, since I've only owned my device for a little over a month. Unfortunately, I'm passed the point where I can return it for a refund, so either I hope and wait for a driver update, or I just give up and buy from someone other than AMD next time.

I'm running a 600 USB. I hope I don't have the same issue. I get the thing working in Windows 7 but get "Low Bit Rate" every 5 minutes or so even when it's plugged into an STB for PVR functionality. What a waste of money. Even worse is that I just bought a pre-release of Win7! So, I guess I have to either roll back to Vista or blow another 100 or so bucks on ATI hardware. Heck with that. I'm going Hauppage, they have Win7 support for more products. Like the WinTV-HVR-850. :( |

I use the current Windows 7 WDM driver (pretends to be for 750 pro only) for my Theater 650 pro PCI tuner: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/tvtuner_win7.aspx?type=2.5.1&product=2.5.1.3.6&lang=English
It is possible with minimal modification of inf file.
In file "aticaw76.inf" section "[ATI.MFG]" (or [ATI.MFG.ntamd64] in case of 64-bit Windows) a row with needed ID of card should be added. In my case it is: "%ATIAVPCI.DeviceDesc% = ATIAVLIMA, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4D50&SUBSYS_A6971002 ;TV Wonder 650 PCI NA - HedgeHog" - I know it from old Vista driver. The "ATIAVLIMA" definition is for some "old" tuner cards. The inf file has the "ATIAVPCI" definition too. It is for 550 pro cards. It looks like that this driver can support many tuner cards, not 750 pro only. P.S. Sorry for my English. I'm not a native English speaker. Edited: 09/20/2009 at 02:41 PM by creator |

creator - I assume the change you made was for the PCI version of the 650? I have the USB version, and made the change you specified to aticaw73.inf (aticaw76.inf seems to be for 64 bit windows), but I brought in the definition for the ATIAVCOMBO. I can't get Windows Device Manager to use this version of the driver for the device it lists as "ATI Unified AVStream Driver". Any suggestions? Edited: 09/21/2009 at 08:44 PM by mmcc |

There will be proper Win7 drivers for the 6xx TV Wonder cards, but not for a while. The Vista drivers should work for the most part until then. ------------------------- Game.AMD Administrator |

Update to my post above: I put the line "%ATIAVPCI.DeviceDesc% = ATIAVCOMBO, USB\VID_0438&PID_B003 ;USB vendor id and device USB id" into the aticaw73.inf file in the stuff that came with the Windows 7 750 Pro drivers. In Windows Device Manager, I then uninstalled and deleted all other drivers I had for the deivce. Then, I rescanned for hardware, cancelled automatic installation of drivers, and browsed for my modified inf file. This let me get the modified driver installed. Unfortunately, I still can't see any TV in Windows Media Center. I can scan for and find channels and see their signal strengths, but can see a picture. |

I have installed the modified Theater 750 driver via Catalyst Install Manager. With previous old Vista driver I had to install it manualy via DeviceManager. |
