I recently made the switch to Windows 7 Professional (64-bit), from Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit). In the past I have used Cyberlink's PowerDVD 9 Ultra for playing both my DVDs and Blu-Rays. I have an LG BD-ROM drive that has worked splendidly in Windows Vista. Since making my switch to Windows 7 Pro, I am no longer able to play Blu-Ray discs on my player. I ran Cyberlink's BD Advisor program, and it tells me the graphics driver (8.67000, from the Catalyst 9.11 beta file) is not capable of playing Blu-Ray. I emailed Cyberlink about the problem and they tell me the error code I receive upon starting my Blu-Ray discs is caused by the ATI Catalyst drivers not supporting "RGBOverlay." I have no idea what that could be and why ATI currently does not support it, but apparently it is important in running Blu-Ray, at least in that particular Cyberlink program. I am here to ask if any of you have suffered a similar (if not exact) problem, and if you have found a solution for it? Here are a few specs from my system: -Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 -8GB G.Skill DDR2 RAM -ATI Radeon HD 4850 Video Card -Windows 7 Professional OS -LG BD-ROM Drive Do any of you perhaps use the same (or similar) video card AND operating system as me, and successfully have Blu-Ray discs playing on your computer? If no solution is currently in sight, do you know of any other 3rd party Blu-Ray players that may currently support my card?

Have you tried an earlier set of drivers, one that you know worked in Vista? I use WinDVD 9+ blu-ray, but if the problem is with the display driver then changing the player may not make a lot of difference. ------------------------- GA-EP45-DS3P Intel P45 DDR2 Motherboard | Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 LGA775 2.66GHz o/c @ 3.6GHz | AK-967 Nero Direct Contact Heatpipe CPU Cooler | Corsair XMS2 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 | OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Mod PSU| LG GGCH20L Blu-ray & HD DVD Rewriter | Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB | 2 x Asus ATI Radeon HD 4870 Glaciator+ 1024MB GDDR5 | Vista Home Premium SP2 (DX11) 64bit |

Cat9.11beta isn't WHQL certified. When I used to run Blu-Ray, you needed to use WHQL drivers. Uninstall Cat9.11beta & install Cat9.10 WHQL. ------------------------- WIN7x64, ASUS P5Q E6300 @ 2.8MHz, FSB 400, 2GB GOLDEN DRAGON DDR2 800, ASUS HD4850 700/1100MHz, SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER T220, SEAGATE ST3500410AS 500GB SATA300, HITACHI HDS721616PLAT80 160GB ATA133, OPTIARC DVD RW AD 7200S SATA150, ANTEC NEOPOWER 650W. |

@Rik55 I previously tried using Cat 9.10 before jumping to the Cat 9.11 Beta, and still was not able to get Blu-Ray to work... received the same internal error in PowerDVD. Sorry for being a newbie, but is there a difference between Cat 9.10 and Cat 9.10 WHQL? If so, could you link me to a download page for it? If none of the 9.10 drivers work, I will have to take donmckenzie's advice and go back further into the previous drivers list. |

The WHQL Cat9.10 was released 22nd October 2009. There are various other versions of Cat9.10 released early to add initial support for the HD58series cards. WHQL drivers have been certified by microsoft and havn't been modified in anyway after there certification. I believe, in order for Blu-Ray to playback HDCP content you need to use WHQL certified drivers. This is all about the copy protection (HDCP) of Blu-Ray. If the driver isn't certified, your player either won't playback or will playback at a very reduced resolution and color palette, because that means the driver could have been modified. Link for Cat9.10 WHQL http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?driver=VideoCard/win7-64-suite Check if PowerDVD9 has got any updates/patches that you may require. Do you have any Virtual Drive or cloning (Virtual Clone Drive/Daemon tools)software installed. This has been known to stop Blu-Ray playback. See if it works if you disable AREO. If I think of anything else, I'll post back. ------------------------- WIN7x64, ASUS P5Q E6300 @ 2.8MHz, FSB 400, 2GB GOLDEN DRAGON DDR2 800, ASUS HD4850 700/1100MHz, SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER T220, SEAGATE ST3500410AS 500GB SATA300, HITACHI HDS721616PLAT80 160GB ATA133, OPTIARC DVD RW AD 7200S SATA150, ANTEC NEOPOWER 650W. |

Since my last reply, I installed the Catalyst 9.9 package (dated sometime in September) from AMD's site. I installed it and ran the BD-Advisor, and the advisor told me that now my graphics driver IS now supportive of Blu-Ray (It recognizes the RGBOverlay, the thing Cyberlink said I needed to correct). Although I tried to run a Blu-Ray in PowerDVD, and again I received the same error. So my problem still persists. @Rik55 I did in fact originally try running Cat 9.10. Those were the first drivers I installed upon switching operating systems (and I downloaded them from AMD, so I know they were properly WHQL certified). I received the same error. My Cyberlink product is completely up-to-date, so that isn't the issue. Also when I run a Blu-Ray disc in PowerDVD, it automatically disables Aero. I do in fact have PowerISO Virtual Drive running though, so I will uninstall that and see if that affects anything. So in order, I will uninstall PowerISO and try running PowerDVD's Blu-Ray playback while using Cat 9.9. If that doesn't work, I will go ahead and reinstall Cat 9.10 and cross my fingers. A thank you ahead of time to all of you that have responded so quickly to my queries thus far. |

Alright, I am currently running the Cat9.10 drivers, downloaded from the specific link that Rik55 has posted. I uninstalled PowerISO Virtual Drive as well. I ran the BDAdvisor, and it once again says that my graphics driver (8.661.0.0) is not BD-Ready. And sure enough, Blu-Ray will still not play. Now I find this to be perplexing -- The Cat 9.9 package I earlier installed not only had a different AND more current graphics driver (8.665.0.0), but it also got the go-ahead from BDAdvisor that claims that my graphics driver is BD-ready. Of course it didn't mean squat, as the Blu-Ray still didn't play, but it is strange nonetheless. Am I officially out of options then? It seems like the 8.661.0.0 driver in the recent Catalyst package is simply not BD-capable for my specific system setup. |

I'd try 9.7 drivers, they were pretty stable. Could be the drive has a problem with Win 7, are there any patches for your specific model? For alternative player: http://www.freewarefiles.com/Media-Player-Classic-Home-Cinema_program_37052.html

@donmckenzie I took your advice and rolled back to Cat 9.7... The BD Advisor says the drivers once again pass inspection (just like 9.9), yet once again, same stupid error message in PowerDVD 9, and no Blu-Ray playback. As for the BD-Rom drive itself, I have the same exact drive according to your signature (LG GGCH20L). I double-checked the firmware and everything is up to date (already was). I also do have that alternative player (I have both 32 and 64 bit versions), and when I go to open the disc, I just get a "cannot render the file" message and nothing will play. Through all of this, the only B.S. response I have gotten from Cyberlink in the past day is "try reinstalling and patching again with Windows Firewall turned off". So naturally I did it just to humor them, and it didn't do squat. Any other ideas? |

A breakthrough! Grabbed a trial version of Corel WinDVD Pro 2010... and Blu-Ray works no problem on it. To hell with Cyberlink then! Anyway, thank you to everyone who gave me some advice along the way. |
