How is the monitor connected. Connect via DVI and Install the monitor driver. Your monitor is being detected as VGA. You don't have GPU scalling over VGA (I don't think, cos it's an anologue connection).

Are those reported resolutions wrong. Isn't your top resolution 1280 x 1024 at 75 Hz. Is your monitor driver installed.

Hang On - You already have access to the adjustments screen (your 2nd screen shot). Click on the arrows to increase/decrease screen size, move screen left/right or up/down. If it's cos of a game that uses a different resolution. You could try setting the desktop to the game resolution. Adjust. The go back to your normal native resolution. Now try the game.

Yes. On first screen shot. Uncheck use Extended Display Identification. Then set 1280x1024    75Hz manually. Then in the second screen shot, adjust any scalling by clicking on the yellow arrows in the centre box (increase/decrease screen size).

NO. There is more double arrows for scalling inside the centre box. They don't quite look like arrows ( <  > ). That's your scalling arrows.

i dont think u understand my problem here.

im playing a game thats fixed resolution at 800x600 and im tired of it stretching and looking nasty.

can only do that with scaling options, which i clearly dont have for some weird reason... :/

probably, because i dont have this problem with nvidia cards.. the scaling option is always there (also never grayed out)

if i can remember, I've been having this problem since catalyst 9.x, but im too lazy to go back using an older driver...

Use centered timings—Turns off Ratiometric Expansion. If you are using a smaller frame buffer image (800 × 600 resolution) than the native screen resolution, the image displays centered on the screen with black bars around it.

from the help file, that is what im looking to do.

ok. Not sure why it looks stretched. Both your native resolution and 800x600 are at a ratio of 4:3. What does your desktop look like if you lower it's resolution to 800x600 and the refresh rate to the rate you set ingame. If it also looks stretched, adjust with the arrows now. Then go back to your native resolution. Next time you set the resolution to 800x600 in a game it should remember the settings.

not so much that its looks stretched, it looks like crap.

thats what im looking to do. so its obviously a feature of ati, but where is it?

You can't do what you quoted. GPU scalling is only available over DVI or HDMI

Cos it's an analogue signal, by default, it's supposed to fill the screen regardless of resolution. I get what you are trying to do. What you want is your monitor to stay at its 1280x1024, but display the game in the centre with 800x600. If you use to get the desired effect (game image in centre with black bars arround) with your onboard graphics, intel did things differently.
