Gears of War V-Sync doesn't work. V-sync does work when I turn it on in other games and does not work only with Gears of War.

Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024MB

Driver Packaging Version: 8.812-110104a-112011C-Apple

OR 8.981.2-120626a-141571E-ATI

Catalyst Version: 11.1

Operating System: Windows 7 SP1 64-bit, Bootcamp installation

Issue Details:

Start Gears of War and start a camaign. Move/Look around a watch screen break into multiple bands that tear apart across the screen.

Default in game settings with v-sync on reproduce the problem. All known custom settings also re-produce the issue.

Issue only occurs with Gears of War. In game v-sync option works with all other games. Game version is the current version installed from Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace.

No External displace devices or cables are connected to the HDMI port. Only internal all-in-one 27 inch display is used.

Motherboard iMac model Identifier 11,3. Intel Core i5 2.8 GHz- 4Cores, 16GB RAM Boot ROM version IM112.0057.B01. SMC Version (system) 1.59f2.

Additional Details: I contacted Microsoft support and they said v-sync works properly with this game and to contact the hardware manufacturer. Microsoft representative did not know what v-sync was.

You can report it to AMD http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D20B2F3EC4

Also, here is the google search...seems nvidia cards experiencing the same http://www.google.com/search?q=gears+of+war+v+sync+doesn%27t+work&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address&ie=&oe=  Might find some help here.

My Driver version says 8.812 in the version download, not 12.6 or 12.7.

Should I be using the MAC graphics driver for bootcamp (8.812), or the regular driver for my graphics card if I don't go under MAC and bootcamp? (12.6 and 12.7)

That link you sent for reporting says reporting form for 12.6 and 12.7, but my driver says 8.812.

I know nothing about Mac or bootcamp....someone else will have to answer that question. There is a article that may help though  http://att.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1403566. Here are the current and past drivers with corresponding numbers. In your CCC you should have the driver version number. http://developer.amd.com/download/ccc/Pages/default.aspx

I don't think any of this is going to affect your v-sync question.

I found somewhere that driver version 8.812 is Catalyst 11.1.

I could try not going under the MAC bootcamp driver page and trying 12.6, but I think the problem will still be there.

I tried that and upgraded to driver version 8.981.2-120626a-141571E-ATI

It didn't fix the problem.

From my google searches I'm getting the impression that this effects lots of people.

I think I solved it!

I downloaded a program called D3DOverider that is part of a program package called "Riva Tuner". I set v-sync to on in there and it looks like v-sync is on now.

Setting v-sync on in Gears of War or in the ATI driver does not work.

I think it is a problem with the game, but somebody who understand how D3DOverider works could probably answer that.

yes they are...with all graphics cards. You can use 3d3 overrider to force vert-sync. It is a part of Rivatuner. You have to download Rivatuner to get it...then delete Rivatuner. Here is a explaination of how to do it. It does work. Also will allow triple buffering if you so desire. Post back your results?
