Im using a dual boot with Tiny XP 32 and 7 ultra the video cards are diamond HD4870X2 and a Diamond HD 4870 1 gig.. the question I have is that the Trifire seems to work fine on the 7 side  but on the XP side it see's all 3 Gpu's in system property's but only uses 1 and on the ATI software on the XP side it only shows the X2 card and On a furmark bench test in 7 it looks to use all 3 Gpu's but in XP only 1 (the HD4870X2). Im not clear if I need a 64 bit O.S to run trifire Im sure there is a simple fix I just need your advise.

Windows 6.x (Vista, 7, 8) supports a maximum of 4 GPUs in Crossfire/SLI, Windows XP supports a maximum of 2.

Which also brings me to this ?? Im building a amd systemmsi 870a G54, Phenom 2 965 8 gigs G Skill and a SATA HD  on the video side i have 2 options Most of my game i still play are older DX9 and 10. My mewest is COD MW3  and I can use my trifire set up 4870x2 and 4870 or I can use my newest addition a Powercolor HD6970 PCS+ my nividea buddy says the 6970 no comparison sell the 4870's I dont know  what would you do ??  thanks  again for your feedback

All versions of Windows 6.x support 3 and 4 GPU Crossfire. Due to non linear scaling, the 6970 should pull in roughly the same figures as a 4870x2+4870, about 75-80% of the power of the 4870 tri fire.
