Hi,  I've just configured my first Eyefinity group as follows:

Radeon HD6870

Catalyst Control centre v12.8

3 x Samsung SysncMaster SB24B300

1 x Startech active mini displayport to DVI adapter

3 x DVI to HDMI gold plated cables

Config as follows:

Screen1  Mini Display Port -> Startech Active DVI adapter -> - HDMI Screen2  DVI -> HDMI
Screen3  DVI -> HDMI

I now have a single group with a max 4800x900 resolution  however this should be 5760 x 1080 as the screens are HD (1920 x1080) however this isn't  offered,  does anyone knwo what I'm doing worng?

Also because I'm not really looking to play games I think I would prefer 3 x desktops of 1920x1080 rather a single one  does anyone know how to configure within the CCC as it's not at all obvious.

Thanks in advance

Will

I hate to say it, but I don't think that a single 6870 can handle a 5760 x 1080 resolution at all let alone being able to game at that....you need a lot of gRAM (minimum of 3GB) and a whole lot more GPU power.

Hi there,  thanks for the reply,  that's too bad hadn't realised,  so what I'd like to dthen is either have

2x screens @ 1920 x 1080 as 1 x single desktop (3840 x 1080) plus separate screen as 2nd desktop @ 1920 x 1080

or 3 x screens each running single dsktop @ 1920 x 1080

any idea how to achieve this?

Thanks again

Will

Yep. You just use the Extend desktop function in VECC.

Even with just 2 1920x1080 screens though you will have to drop the detail levels in order to get playable frame rates in most games

I dunno... I'm thinkin' 5760x1080 vs 4800x900 should be achievable. It would help to know EXACTLY which 6870 make/model you have.

Thanks guys,  to be honest I'm not bothered about games,  just want a big desktop for productivity or 3 x seperate desktops,  so the best I can get is 2 x DVI screens operating with a single desktop of 3960 x 1080,  to get this working I've had to delete the 3rd monitor i.e. the one connected to the Display port via a Startech active DVI to HDMI adapter but I can't see any way of enabling this seperately i.e to operate  on it's own,  the only option available is to exend the desktop which then drops the res down accordinly. any ide how I can fix?  FYI,  the card is an XFX AMD/ATI Radeon HD 6870 Black Edition 1GB Overclocked

There are no active HDMI adapters for what you're trying to achieve and that StarTech thing isn't an active adapter in the sense in which it needs to be for EyeFinity use. There's your problem right there ..

You'll have to use your output ports differently and get an AMD certified for EyeFinity adapter for the non HDMI one ..

http://support.amd.com/us/eyefinity/Pages/eyefinity-dongles.aspx

That page also states what you need to have in relation to dongles / screens for running EyeFinity. Might be a pain for x3 Monitors with only VGA/HDMI inputs but it should work with the correctly chosen output setup/adapter.

Hi thanks for that,  so had a look at the list but still unsure,  I need mini DP to HDMI,  this could be achieved in a number of ways so what's the optimum one to buy and what will this enable,

3 x 1920 x 1080

1 x 3840 x 1080 and 1 x 1920 x 1080

or 1 x 5760 x 1080?

  thanks again  Will
