Hi all,

I set up a Eyfinity 3+3 Monitor Configuration with an Radeon HD 7870 Eyefinity 6 Graphics Card. The Display connected to Port 1 of the Card is intermittently blacking out from time to time. I tryed every Monitor with every Cable at Port 1, but no matter what monitor is used or which cable is used - the Problem always concernes the Monitor connected to Port 1.

My Configuration:
Motherboard: Asus RAMPAGE II Extreme
Power Supply: bequiet! Straight Power 680W
Monitors: EIZO EV2335
Cables: Delock miniDisplayPort to DisplayPort Adaptercable
Operating System: Windows 7 64bit
Driver: Latest Driver and latest beta driver

Has anybody an Idea how to solve the Problem?

I would try reseating the card into the PCIe slot and retest.  If that doesn't correct the issue then you may have a flaky port and you should contact the manufacturer to begin the RMA process.

Thanks for the answer. In the meantime I figured out some new Information:

I reseated the card into the PCIe slot - still the same Problem
I pluged the card into the second PCIe Slot - still the same Problem
I used a extra Power Cable from the Power Supply only for the Graphics Card - still the same Problem

So I disconnected 5 Monitors and connected only one Monitor to Port 1 of the Graphics Card. When I deactivated Windows Aero - the Problem was suddenly gone.
So I started an old game I found on my Disk: GrandTheftAuto 4. The Game started i got to the menu - everything was fine, but when i start the Game the Monitor is only Black most of the Time. About every ten seconds the Monitor comes back and shows the Game for about half a second and then I's black again.

When I connect the Monitor to another Port than Port 1 everything is fine. The Game is running perfectly and the monitor keeps the signal.

So I'm really not sure what kind of Problem this can be. I also checked the Driver Versions of the Chipset/Moterboard. Everything is up do date.

So can I know if this is a Hardware Problem of the card or a Software/Driver Problem?

Still sounds like your "port 1" is bad.  I would RMA it if it is still under warranty, if not....well, you'll have to get a new card.

The only other thing that you could try would be "baking" the card to see if that helps, BUT....only do so if the card is out of warranty......you have a well ventilated kitchen.....you don't have any money for a new card.  You'll have to Google how to do it but there have been scores of people that have done it with successful results.

Is it any monitor that you connect to that port gives you a problem or just that one?

I have a very similar problem.  Which ever monitor I designate as the 'primary' monitor will occassionally black out after sitting idle and the system goes into sleep mode.  Waking it up the monitor will black out.  It seems that it doesn't know what it's connecting to (analog or digital).  Usually rebooting the system fixes it, sometimes more than once.  It's a pain and I'd love to know what's causing it.  I keep my Catalyst software up to date so please don't tell me to upgrade the firmware.

Ok, I won't tell you to upgrade the firmware, although I doubt you understand the difference between AMD Catalyst software vs. your graphics card manufacturer's GPU BIOS (firmware)....LOL

From my dealings with this technology.....simple hardware setups seem to function better with Microsoft's sleep/hibernate functionality vs. more complex solutions with multiple monitors.....CrossFire-X/SLi, etc. My main gaming/benching rig is 100% not AMD at the moment and with that being said, I cannot use Microsoft's sleep/hibernate functionality either. But I can say the same about my past AMD "main rigs" that were all AMD or combinations thereof.....all of them were the same way....Microsoft's sleep/hibernation feature....yep....it just doesn't like "complicated". Who's fault is it? Not 100% sure, but for me since it does the same thing with AMD/NVidia/Intel when it comes to that feature, I would say it is on Microsoft's side.....just my two bits.

Cheers!
