Hey all --

I'm definitely a newb to this forum, as well as GPU cards.  To sum up my issue, I need advice.  I'm building a PC and I'm first (& foremost) an audio engineer.  Secondly, I love to do video editing and production on the side.  Also, don't really have time for gaming being a husband and father of 3.  I'm looking at upgrading to Sony Vegas 12, but I'm having trouble deciding on a card in order to fully utilize Vegas/GPU Acceleration.  (I've supplied a link http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro/gpuacceleration.)  I need the card to be quiet, affordable (less than $200), yet plenty capable to handle my needs.  Someone suggested the Radeon HD 7750.  Again, I'm not into professional HD full-length movie production, but will be using plenty of fx, green screen, and other fun stuff.

Input anyone????  (and if this is the wrong forum, please put me in the right direction)

If you have waited long enough for my answer here it is. Buy Nvidia's latest CUDA enabled GPU like GTX 660/670/680. CUDA is currently supported by most major video editing softwares. Also CUDA has been around for quite some time now , where as OPENCL and DIRECTCOMPUTE (I read this somewhere) are in their infancy stages. I don't get paid by NVIDIA to tell you this , I myself bought a 7750 in haste since I thought I would only be doing gaming , but now I see the Microsoft's Expression Encoder 4 SP2 pro version supports CUDA GPU's but not AMD GPU acceleration.

Even if AMD optimized video editing software were to come it would only make a difference on the High end AMD GPU which may not fall in your budget.

Unfortunately I agree with the previous post. If you don't want to play games and can afford it, you're better off with something from the competitor. AMD's cards are made for gaming and not the best choice for general computing. (Though, they are for gaming of course.)
