XFX 5870 XXX edition running at stock clocks.

I tried 12.6,12.8(in Vista) and now running 8.982.10.8000 in windows 8 without catalyst installed.

Running windows 8 but had same problem in windows Vista.

The problem is crashing to a screen with lines. Looks like grey screen of death but differant colors, mostly black. I am also getting crashes to black screen with fan blasting 100%. Getting crashes in sleeping dogs and boarderlands at full settings. I could not make it through the last mission of Sleeping Dogs settings without crashing, had to turn settings down to med.(and game was running good no lags on high)

Gigabyte x58-ud5 motherboard with latest bios

antec signiture 650 power supply

I have a 24' 1920+1200 hp display and a sony 1920 1080 tv but just play games on the hp display with tv off.

Problem happens in Sleeping Dogs and Borderlands 2. Older games like gta4 seam to be ok.

Core i7 965 cpu stock clocks

12 gb of Gskill 1600 ddr3 ram at stock

I am not sure if I have a overheating problem, driver problem with those games or a bad card. My temps in gpu-z are about 79-80c but my GPU temp#3 gets up to 91c.

Edit

I ran furmark for 15 min. My gpu temp was 88c but GPUtemp#3 got up to 105c. It did not crash during the test. Is that to hot or too much difference in temps?

I use MSI Afterburner's fan profile ability to keep my 5870 close to 70c MAX.
Take yours out and use a can of compressed air to blow all the fuzz balls out of it. Might as well do all the case fans and cpu heatsink while you're at it.
In your case, make sure the front fan is lined up with the 5870's intake and not blocked by a bunch of wires. I realize the Antec900 isn't the best for cable management.

Good luck!

The card and case are clean and wires are tucked away. I think I might have to re do my thermal paste because one part of my gpu is so much hotter than other temps.

Any openion on the crashing during games? I don't hear much about other people having crashing problems in these games. I must have a problem with my card or power supply?

I don't think heat is causeing it to crash because it got hotter in furmark without crashing?

If you're referring to the checkerboardish crap at top left then that's likely from overheating memory.

The card is good now after new thermal paste. It runs cooler and no crashing in games.  The artifacting was caused by the defalt windows 8 driver,it went away with a driver update.

 Thanks for input
