Sorry to bother, but I'm not really an expert on this matter.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 520MX but I'm not really happy with it... It keeps freezing and crashing... So I looked up for some better Graphic Cards for Laptops.

In that research I found that my actual Graphic Card was not really that good (what a surprise) so I tried to look for a better one and after some more research I found that AMD Radeon HD 7870M is a good enough for me and not that expensive.

What I would like to know is if that Graphic Card can be used in a laptop.

• CPU - Intel Core i5-24 30M, 2.4GHz
• Windows 7

If there is needed some more information I'll be happy to give it and if it's not asking much, please give me your personal opinion on the Graphic Card and about the choice.

Also, as a newbie, I don't know if my Laptop can handle with that Graphic Card or if it will run smoothly nor anything.

Where did you get the information that you could even change your laptop graphics?

You don't need to go changing the card in that laptop. The heatsink in it, is not built to cool a videocard of the rated TDP that the 7870M is rated. useing the tiny heatsink on that 520M would basically burn the 7870M up.

And also Asus use's properity bios's / Vbios in the hardware. So its doubtful it would even work. You would need to find one with an Asus Vbios in it, and even then. There is no garentee it will work. Let alone not burn itself up while gaming.

To echo what both Vantharas, and stumped have said - changing hardware components in a laptop is pretty much not a possibility.  I think the only things you can (sometimes) swap out are harddrives and memory.

To change out a video card, you have to think about the laptop's physical shape, and design, and power requirements, etc..  Laptops are just an entirely different beast than a customizable desktop (tower) computer.

There have been multiple attempts in the past to create some kind of external graphics module for laptops which can you just plug in... but so far nothing has really taken off.  Maybe if thunderbolt takes hold we'll get one, but for now... yeah you're kinda stuck.
