Hi.
I have a problem with my SAPPHIRE HD 7850 2GB GDDR5.
It seems I am certainly not alone and this doesn't seem to be brand specific.
My rig looks like this:
OS: WINDOWS 7 ENTERPRISE x64
MoBo: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Z68 S-1155 ATX
CPU: INTEL CORE I5 2500K 3.30GHZ 6MB S-1155
RAM: CORSAIR 16GB DDR3 XMS3 INTEL I5/I7 PC12800 1600MHZ (4X4GB)
GFX: SAPPHIRE RADEON HD7850 2GB PCI-E DVI/HDMI/DP
HDD: KINGSTON HYPERX 120GB SSD SATA/600 MLC
PSU: FRACTAL DESIGN NEWTON R2 650W MODULAR
------
Problem:
When I'm playing a game, it takes around 10-20 minutes, the computer crashes. It's not like it shuts down but rather just gives me a black screen and sends out a strange sound in my headphones.
Troubleshooting:
I have made sure that everything is up to date and working.
- Windows Update
- Chipset drivers
- Graphics drivers (tried both Catalyst 12.10 and 12.11beta8)
- Realtek sound drivers
- BOIS Upgrade (3602)
- Ran memtest86+ to check RAM - OK.
And finally i checked in my eventlog and found the following:
Whenever the computer crashed the eventlogger had given out the following error; "Critical: Kernel-Power 41 (63) error".
Possible solution:
After a lot of different measures I finally deactivated the "ATI High Definition Sound Device" in my device manager just as a trial and error thing really. Since I did this I haven't encountered the error.
Possible culprit:
Possible bug in ATI Sound drivers.
------
I will return later after some more tests to make sure this is the correct solution.
Sincerely
/cluster-
