I am going to get a HD 7970 Vapor X card and dont know which to get, 3 gig or 6 gig, i only run 1 monitor, so is there any advantage to the 6 gig over the 3 gig for high end gaming ?.

For just one monitor... get the 3GB card.  If you've got a big monitor, and you load up on the eye candy you could end up using a reasonable chunk of that space.  6GB... not so much.

Agreed, and the benchmarks actually show that excess RAM causes a performance degradation, the extra latency reduces performance by a couple of percentage points.
