I'm not tech savvy whatsoever so bare with me as I try my best to explain my specs. If anything more is needed, I just need guidance on how to find out the answers to your question so you can answer mine

I bought an XFX Radeon HD 7970 Graphics Card for my computer which is an HP Pavilion, build s5-1114. The computer case is too small and the card will not fit. What can I do to fix this or do I have to return the card.

You would have to buy a new case and a new PSU...  neither of the two from that build will allow you to use that card...  infact any modern GPU will not work properly with that PSU

Conclusions arrived after a simple google of your system:

There is no way in hell that Your Computer with a 220w power supply could EVER support that card anyway, the card uses over 220w just by itself. Return the card.

For the price of that card you can probably get a whole machine that will outperform your current one by a significant margin, so yeah... take it back, and get something else.
