Hello
I have AMD Radeon 5870,PCI Expres 2,0 x16,BIOS Version 012.011.000.006,Memory Size 1024 MB,GDDR5,Core Clock 850MHz,Memory Clock 1200 MHz, Total Mem. Bandwith 153,6 GByte/s, Driver Packaging Version 9.002-120928m-149042C-ATI, Catalyst Version 12.10, 2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1266, Direct3D version 9.14.10.0926, OpenGL Version 6.14.10.11931, Catalyst CC version 2012.0928.1532.26058
Since not long ago my graphic card is showing some really bad behaviour. When I start my PC while on desktop in idle state CCC is showing 92-94% activity, and fans are blowing like crazy, temperature is risig to 100C untill I have dreaded BSOD.I tried to roll back drivers but no help there, that kind of behaviour is showing in 8 out of 10 times I reset ,y PC,and since I'm an avid gamer for last 20 yrs that kind of problem bugs me as hell,I can't even think about playing BF3 or crisys 2 without BSODing pleas help .I don't know if that is a harware or software problem.

When was the last time you removed your graphics card and cleaned it? When you updated the drivers, did you perform a clean install? Do you have the netframework 4.5 installed?

Netframework 4 is what AMD requires, however, there were problems with that version (Microsoft..not AMD) so there were 3 updates to it. Netframework 4.5 fixes all that...so I would update it just on principle. BTW...Microsoft update should have had a update for it...have you checked lately? When I mentioned cleaning...did you Remove the card and clean it? or just blew the dust out of the case? Did you run Driver sweeper when you installed the new drivers?

My bet/guess/ is software. I would reinstall the 12.10 drivers http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/Drivers/ATI_Catalyst/old/ following the clean install method > http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=444&threadid=162444&enterthread=y

This happened with my old 5870. I forget which driver version fixed it.
Just try older ones till its fixed.
Also.try starting a game and then exit. Now check the card.Mine went back to low power speeds after doing this.
