Hi all,

My brother has an Acer Aspire X1430.  We like to play Left 4 Dead 2 but his computer runs it very slowly using the built in AMD 6300 graphics.  We installed an nVidia 8400GS which works a treat except that it won't play sound through the HDMI port...

If anybody knows of a graphics card about the same size as the nVidia 8400GS which does NOT need power cables feeding it and CAN play sound please leave me a suggestion.

From Acer

Power Supply 220 W (PFC / Non-PFC)

You're not going to run any gamer card with that, and I wouldn't even run any discrete card with that. You're going to need, minimum, a Corsair CX450. However, also from Acer:

PCI Express® 2.0 x16 slot (PCI Express® 2.0 x4 bandwidth)

Means you're limited to HTPC class cards, 6450, perhaps 7570. And with a slow E-350 dual core...But that card, like other AMD cards have been for a long time, play audio through just fine using the on board audio processor.

AMD FX-8350 w/ Corsair H105, ASUS Sabertooth 990FX Gen3/R2, 8GiB G.SKILL DDR3-2133, XFX HD 7970 GHz Edition, 1TB Samsung 850 Evo, 256GB OCZ Vector, Creative X-Fi Titanium w/ Creative Gigaworks S750, SeaSonic X750, Corsair C70, HP ZR2440w, Win 7 Ult Ed x64

Thanks for your reply,

We've found the graphics card definitely makes a difference to games.

My brother uses a converter from DVI to HDMI to make the connection from the card to his TV but there is no sound so if you could recommend a card which has audio capability on board we'd be very appreciative.

P.S.  It doesn't have to be anything flashy, perhaps something cheap we could get from eBay!
