Hello everyone,

I've got a really old computer that a friend passed on to me assembled by a company called alienware and it contains a radeon x1600 graphics card thats been causing a lot of trouble lately by overheating (I've used gpu-z to monitor temps), I guess the fan is somewhat broken on the graphics card. So I was wondering if I could upgrade the radeon x1600 to a more advanced sapphire hd 6450 ? The motherboard in the computer is a intel d975xbx. Is this compatible with the aforementioned graphics card ? I'm only asking here because I know nothing about computers and I don't want to order a new graphics card and then in the end it won't work. I'm also open for any other suggestions in regards to graphics cards that will work well with my motherboard.

Many thanks to everyone responding in advance,

Colin

That card will work with your motherboard.

The HD6450 doesnt require external power cables so the psu in you machine should be ok.

I hope you do not plan on any gaming with the card. Its more for a HTPC or web surfing.

A review.

Thanks so much for your speedy response fishman. What card would you suggest for my motherboard that is also ok for gaming. I don't play much so I won't need top-level equip but I do play some DotA2 from time to time. Let me know.
