AMD Radeon HD 7770
1000 MHz GPU Clock and 1125 MHz Memory Clock during high performance
AMD Catalyst Driver Version, and Driver History
Currently using 13.1, tried the beta 13.3 previously, when the issues started happening.
Windows 8 64-Bit
I was troubleshooting overheating errors while playing Tomb Raider. I have HWMonitor and my temperature would reach 107 C (224 F) and my fan speed would be crazy after about 10 minutes of playing, and often the game would crash. I have not experienced these issues in any other games before. (SC2 on ultra, sim city on ultra, Far cry 3 on medium.. etc)
The game was still playable in small doses.. sort of.
I suspected it might be dust collecting in my case so I opened it up and used compressed air to clean everything out, there wasnt much dust anyway (I clean it probably every month or every other month). I took the GPU out and cleaned it up as well, the issue may lie in the fact that I took the case off the GPU, and then put it back on. The thermal paste looked fine but i didnt replace it or anything.. put it back in and booted up my PC fine.
When I attempted to launch Tomb Raider again, the fan immediately kicked in and became very loud, temperatures instantly skyrocketed to 100C + and the game was unplayable. This happens with any game I try now the second I try to do anything, regardless of graphics settings.
