I have a Radeon HD 6970 and I'm using catalyst version 13.1.  At random times browsing the internet or when gaming my computer screen will go black like it isn't receiving a signal and then the video card fan will ramp up to 100%.  I still have sound and it seems like I can still do things, but nothing is on the monitor.  Any suggestions as to what could be the cause of this issue?

Possibly....

Please read the sticky "Read Before Posting".
http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=440&threadid=160417&enterthread=y

We need to know:

1. Processor (I5-xxxx, A10-xxxx, etc)
2. Graphics card (HD6970, HD4850, Mobility, etc)
3. OS (Win7, Win8, WinXP, 32 or 64bit, etc)
4. Driver version (13.2, 12.10, etc)
5. Power Supply..list make and model (not just wattage)
6. RAM
7. Did your computer come with the OS and Graphics card you have now?
8. Monitor resolution (native), connected by (DVI, HDMI, etc)

If this is a LAPTOP please post in the correct forum...that would be the laptop forum   http://forums.amd.com/game/categories.cfm?catid=448&entercat=y

I built this computer in 2011 from parts ordered at Newegg.

Processor: Intel Core i5-2400 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz

Graphics Card: XFX HD-697A Radeon HD 6970 2GB

OS: Windows 7 64-bit  SP1

Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe (REV 3.0)

Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB 4x4 240-pin DDR3 Model F3-12800CL9Q-16GBRL

Power Supply: OCZ ZX series 850W

Display: ASUS VK278Q connected through HDMI Resolution 1920x1080

Driver: Catalyst version 13.1

At random times while using the computer, be it web browsing, youtube, or playing games such as League of Legends or World of Warcraft, the screen will go black and says no signal, the video card fan will ramp up to 100% and will stay that way until I turn the computer off.  Even while the display is off I can still here whatever I was watching and can still here whatever game running.  It also seems to be occuring more frequently within the past month.

I never liked the 13.1 drivers personally...why don't you try a clean install and use the 13.3 beta3 from here > http://benchmark3d.com/amd-catalyst-13-3-beta-3  They work great for me and my 6970.

I have this exact same issue. My screen is now going dead every 5 mins or so and fans going to full. It's been completely fine for nearly two years and then out of the blue yesterday it did it and keeps on doing it. Did you get any further with your issues? Have you managed to resolve it?
