I'm normally a Nvidia/EVGA kinda guy(I've been running a 460 GTX for around 3 years now), but as of late it seems AMD is making great strides in higher tier GPUs for lower costs. I looked at some straight number benchmarks using  G3D mark, which show the 660ti(about $265 for the EVGA FTW 2GB version with deals on newegg) to be about 60 points above the 7950. But a few of the game based benchmarks give the 7950 a pretty hefty edge on the 660ti, and almost even the 670. Now I think both of those cards are the stock versions without OCing or extra cooling, so the odds are up in the air on that one. So I'm seeing about a $20 difference between the 2 cards, but I don't know what that really buys me.

I really wanted to get a card for $220ish, but I can go up to $300 if the card is really amazing.

Also, I'm open to any other suggestions that are closer to the $220 or retailers like newegg.

Thanks.

P.S: This may be for another thread, but my current motherboard only has a single PCIe 2.0 X16. I noticed a lot of the more current GPU's are geared towards PCIe 3.0X16. Will I get any signifigant performance losses from not having a 3.0 slot?

Benchmarks suck. And.. it would be good to know your system specs (cpu, power supply, motherboard) to make any kind of recommendation.

Take a look at the HD 7870 Ghz edition. Don't worry about the PCIe 3.0 vs PCIe 2.0, single cards don't exceed the PCIe 2.0 x16 bandwidth.

Any suggested manufacturer? I'm thinking PowerColor or Sapphire Tech.
