Using Sapphire HD 7950 for Mac Pro, 3GB. OS X 10.8. OpenGL concepts at OpenGL 2.1, GLSL 1.20.
We have an application that has 1024 planes of geometry and establishes planes of geometric and texture coordinates. The Y,Z dimensions are 512 and 256. When viewed along Y or along Z, the performance (moving the display around with mouse, etc.) is great. But when these planes are established along the X plane, it slows greatly.
The technique we are using is similar to what is described here http://content.gpwiki.org/index.php/OpenGL:Tutorials:3D_Textures
My question: is this a known limitation of this board, or ATI boards in general? Possibly a problem with Macintosh drivers? It seems to work fine on a different board with less memory running on a Linux system. Also, if we use much smaller stacks (300 or so) it works smoothly.
If you need simplified code to diagnose this, please let me know.
