I am in need of urgent help. I recently purchased a new computer with AMD Radeon HD 8760, OS windows 8.

This morning I was browsing the AMD website and dl the amddriverdownloader which automatically detects the latest drivers. I did this even though Windows said that the driver (which came pre installed) was already up to date. Don't ask me why.

Long story short, the amddriverdownloader was not detecting my Radeon HD 8760 but instead referred to it as a Radeon HD 7XXX and recommended the 13-4_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql driver.

I dl this and installed it. and immediately the screen size adjusted (became smaller than before) and on my systems section it started to show my videocard as Radeon HD 7700 instead of Radeon HD 8760.  I launched a random games benchmarker to see if my score had improved and it didn't really improve at all. I quit the benchmarker and used the "Roll back" driver functionality.

My screen was readjusted to fit my monitor and on the device manager page it showed that the driver went back to the pre installed driver which is driver version 9.1.0.0 with driver date 9/13/2012 and my videocard was now back to "AMD HD Radeon 8760".

Even though the screen adjusted, my problems have just started.

I can't seem to start/ launch a single game. I would double click on the game icons and it would stay in "launching" like forever. Every game I click on, would stay in "launch mode". Even the random game benchmarker that I mentioned previously would no longer launch.

I tried everything. System restore didn't work at all. I tried going back to an earlier restore point but the games wont launch. I need help.

When I used the "roll back" driver functionality, I noticed that the folders of the drivers I installed are still on my computer. Is this the cause of the problem?

Go to the computer manufacturers support site and download the drivers they have for your computer.

Hi,

thx for the quick reply.

So if I understand you correctly, I need to go to Acer to download drivers. My computer is Acer computer with Intel i7 cpu and AMD radeon card.

What driver would I be looking for at Acer? I am on their website now.

Update: my computer product is an Acer predator G3620, the manufacturer is Acer. On their website, I went looking for drivers and used the same product model and it gave me a list of drivers. I dl the one that says "AMD for VGA" and its number is 8.920.0.0000.

Is this the one I need? Sorry for sounding like a total n00b, just making sure Im doing everything by the book. Now if this is the one, what do I do with it? Do I uninstall and wipe every AMD driver and than reinstall using the new one?

I would just install it over the existing drivers. Installing new drivers is a option, not a requirement. Every driver "update" is in fact a driver "fix". Read the 'read me' of the drivers and if you are not having the issues the update/fix remedies, do not download or install. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

There is also a bios update for your computer...unless you "upgraded" your OS from Win7 to Win8. If Win8 was the default OS, then you should look at BIOS on the driver support page.

That looks like the one you need. Plus like stumped said "If ain't broke don't fix it". Were you having a problems or you just felt you wanted to update the drivers?

I don't update drivers unless I'm having a problem and that would be last thing I would do too.

Plus these two are what Microsoft put in:

Hi guys,

It didnt work :-(. Somewhere, I messed up the driver install files.

I had to do full reboot yesterday and now the problem is fixed. The good news is that this is a new computer and its not that much hassle to reinstall all the programs.

@dmdilks

I normally dont install drivers but I was running the ff14arr benchmarker and the thing is: many people on the net have way better scores than I have even though they have older CPU and older graphics card models. So I dont know why but I started thinking maybe the cause was with the drivers and one thing led to anotherand you know the rest.

Any ideas why my score would be that much lower? i7 3770 and AMD HD Radeon 8760.

I don't benchmark anything and don't believe in them. Not trying to tell you not to use them. That is up to the person and their computer.

If the computers is running and you are not having any problems running games don't worry about the scores. It is going to drive you nuts.

The one thing that you have to understand is you are running 8760 and AMD doesn't really have a drive for it. The only way you can get that driver is from the company that made the computer.
