Built computer back in 2008 and my Radeon HD 4800 just died, not a bad run considering how hard I pushed it for 5 years. I just purchased the 7790 but can’t get Windows XP 32 to recognize it.

Downloaded this driver and installed it but I still can’t get the vga controller to recognize it.

AMD_Radeon_HD_7790_12.101.2.1-130416a.exe

EDIT: IM NOT EVEN USING VGA IM USING DVI

Monitor: 25 inch

Setting: 1920 by 1080

Processor Model : AMD Phenom™ 9850 Quad-Core Processor

Speed : 2.5GHz

System : Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. M78SM-S2H

Chipset AMD (Family 10h) Athlon64/Opteron/Sempron HyperTransport Technology Configuration

Video System Adapter : ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (512MB, PCIe 2.00 x16, PS3.0, VS3.0)

Logical Storage Devices Hard Disk (C : 84GB (NTFS) @ OCZ-AGILITY3 90GB (SATA600, NCQ)

Network Adapter : NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller - Packet Scheduler Miniport (Ethernet, 1Gbps)

 

Operating System(s) Windows System : Microsoft Windows XP (2002) Home 5.01.2600 (Service Pack 3)

Hi that is because there are no windows xp drivers for that card. You would need vista or Win 7 to run that card.

Unfortunately, the Radeon HD7790 is not supported in Windows XP. The Radeon HD7790 is compatible with Windows Vista/7/8.

The last series to be XP compatible was the HD 6000 series, but you would be better off spending your money on a copy of Windows 7, XP is dead in 9 months.

Thanks, Im going to build a new system and throw win 7 on that. I want to keep my old system around for other things.
