Built computer back in 2008 and my Radeon HD 4800 just died, not a bad run considering how hard I pushed it for 5 years. I just purchased the 7790 but can’t get Windows XP 32 to recognize it.

Downloaded this driver and installed it but I still can’t get the vga controller to recognize it.

Hi that is because there are no windows xp drivers for that card. You would need vista or Win 7 to run that card.

Unfortunately, the Radeon HD7790 is not supported in Windows XP. The Radeon HD7790 is compatible with Windows Vista/7/8.

The last series to be XP compatible was the HD 6000 series, but you would be better off spending your money on a copy of Windows 7, XP is dead in 9 months.
