I have a dell inspiron laptop Processor with an i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz, 6gb ram, with integrated HD4000 chip and a Radeon 7730M.  The resolution is currently at 1366 x768.  I just bought a 22" LED external monitor to connect to the laptop and use it as the primary monitor.  The monitor runs at 1920x1080.

My concern is that I will lose a lot of performance by running such a higher resolution on this card.  Alternatively I can lower the resolution but then wont I be losing out on image quality?

I dont play very pc demanding games.  Mainly MMO's.  War Thunder, World of Tanks, Heroes & Generals 99% of the time.  I still am concerned however.

I COULD cancel my order for the 22" and get a 19" instead which runs at 1366 x 768 but I feel like I may regret it.

Thanks very much for the help

You may not lose TO much performance as MMOs are primarily CPU bound. You might have to drop a bit of the image enhancements such as AA, but if it's a good quality monitor, running it at 1280x720 or 1440x900 with the GPU Scaling option set to Maintain Aspect Ratio, you shouldn't notice that much of an IQ decrease.

So what ya think? get the smaller screen at a lower res or run the larger screen at lower res?

Turns out that a 1920x1080 22" display reduces the FPS considerably, near/sub 20, which is not really playable.  I COULD lower the graphics settings to medium but it sort of ruind the game.  I just bought another LED, a 20" at 1600x900.  Going to see how that one looks/performs and then decide which one I'd like to keep.  Obviously the 1920x1080 looks better but for games its going to kill me.  And of course I cant just swap out the video card, I would need to replace the motherboard.

Any input would be appreciated.

Michael

I got the 20" 1600x900 screen yesterday and I think this is the money shot for a 20" lol.  Game runs smooth and actually easier to see.  No big difference in multimedia image quality IMO.

We live n learn.

Thanks
