I bought FX-6300 couple of months ago and i very satissfied with it. Now im looking to buy graphics card and im very insterested in R9 280x, so my question is, IS this processor powerfull enough for that graphics card ?

I dont want to spend over 300 euros on graphics if im gonna get bottleneck by CPU.

CyberPower has there 6300 starting with R7-240 but offers up to the R9-280x. I would say the processor should be ok with the 280x. The next R9-290 series would probally be to much for the 6300.

Just make sure you have enough PSU watts to power it.

There is no way to answer that question globally, as there are some games which are horribly CPU bound which take an i7 clocked at north of 4ghz to become unbound, and there are other games which hammer the GPU so hard the CPU will not have any issues. Also it depends on your resolution you are playing at, the levels of anti aliasing you are using, but generally if you are playing at resolutions of 1920x1200 and above with 4x or greater AA, you shouldn't have a problem with being CPU bound except for horrible console ports.

FX 6300 is even to much for 280x, it you will even be good with 290x thooo,

some ppl just dont realise that CPU-GPU matters.

I had Phenom II 965 C3, OCed on 4.1, but and amd 7970 OC 1130, and not even 1 game that CPU bottlenecked.

And basicly you got way better CPU and the R9 280xx = 7970Ghz

I'm calling wrong on this. I own a 965, and a 960T. And both of those CPUs are severely CPU bottlenecking a 7950.

Games like World of Warcraft, Starwars the Old republic. (pretty much any MMO) Skyrim, Alot of other console ports. Run really bad on bulldozer CPUs.  Until you hit extremely high resolutions like say 2400x1400. Then it doesn't matter that much. But Intel still enjoys a nice lead at those resolutions.

*any* console port nowadays bottlenecks Amd CPUs... Unless they are properly coded like bz said.

Now that may change seeing as how AMD is now in the new consoles useing the AMD jaguar based CPUs. Which means console ports should be threaded , specifically , hardware threaded.

But for the time being, Intel CPU's enjoy a dominating lead when it comes to console ports and gaming in general.
