Hello,

I've searched for this on the forum, didn't find any clear enough answer...

Im planning to buy one Radeon 7970 or 7990 grph card, but I have two monitors.

These cards have dual link? Can I sue dual link DVI to connect to two monitors at the same time and extend my windows desktop (different images in every monitor). Will I be able to do this with a DVI and a VGA monitors?

Thanks

Dual Link DVI is a single connector that allows higher resolutions and/or refresh rates.

What you seem to be asking is if you can connect two monitors to a single card's two DVI ports.  The answer is yes.  You can connect two of any type that the card supports, including DVI and VGA.

If you want to do more than two, you'll need either a DisplayPort monitor or an active adapter.

Hi,

Thanks for the answer thanny, but no, I don0t mean that at all.

As far as I know, both Radeon HD 7970 and 7990 have just ONE DVI output.

Im tying to figer out if I will be able to connect two monitors (one DVI and 1 VGA, or two DVI (I will have to buy anotherone with DVI input) to these cards with just ONE dual link DVI output.

I've readed that Dual Link DVI allowws to connect in daisy chain two monitors... ins't that true?

When I say Radeon Hd 7990 / 7970 i mean i will buy just ONE of them, not the two cards at the same time...

In short, no.  It just allows a higher data rate than a normal DVI port.  You don't get two independent display outputs.

You can, however, use one passive DP adapter for the second monitor.  The card should come with it.
