i had an AMD 4870x2 and it used to get real hot. like 90 degrees c.

after 2 and a half years it died. i see on the web that the 290 X get very hot, like 95 degrees c. will this heat affect the life span of the 290 X ??

i don't want to spend loads of money on a card that won't last.

what do you think ???

Heat like that may be caused by air flow issues, check all fans to ensure they work and not dusty. Be sure your box is not restricting the exhaust or intake flow.

From what I've read, since AMD refuses to improve their stock cooler (and has generally refused to improve it since the HD 2900 came around), they designed the card to run 24/7 at 95°C. I would try a more traditional tool such as MSI Afterburner instead of Overdrive to increase the fan speed though.

With a manual fan speed of 65-70% my pair of 290x cards haven't gone past 77 degrees, and most games they seem to sit around 66.  Hardly overheating.
