So sapphire admitted that the bios on r9 280x was causing screen flicker? Do you have a link to the article? Where can I find this new bios with notes?

I was talking about R9 270X cards but all R9 serie have a same problem. For R9 270X cards MSI and Sapphire releases free flicker bios. I will provide you a link and after that you can check with google translator on Korean site, where you can download or check for new vbios. All the praise for Korea, it because they respect customers.

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2351498

P.S  asus continues to hear. Sent so many requests to expel vbios, but I see on their website they make one bios for each card without update. I will return card to the seler and trade it for another one that works.

update: Even though using older drivers fixes the flickering, the clock jumpiness that causes it is still there

--

I "Think" I have fixed it so far 10 minutes of Chrome Browsing with no flicker. This was all my procedure:

Before I started, what I did was installing the beta drivers from AMD for the R9 series, so I never used the drivers from the cd.

1. Uninstalled CATALYST and restarted in Safe mode with networking

2. Downloaded GURU3D Driver Sweeper and cleaned my drivers plus disabled windows update driver downloading (all within the app). Also make sure to enable the checkbox that cleans AMD folders.

3. Restarted in normal mode, and installed the CD Version DRIVERS. Restarted again and bam > So far no flickering

Color hints: I tried my previous VGA and the problem didnt happen. Started to happen again when reinstalled the 280X. I tried switching PSU cables, just dont waste your time. And I pressed the dual bios button, if it did anything i will never know...

I will post again if this ever happens again.

Though I wonder why it DID happen also in my ARCHLINUX os

@revolucion09

Nice Im glad you fixed, but plz tell as after couple days of testing, is it still present or not. It is possible to driver fix this problem like we can change memory freq from 150mhz to 300mhz in 2D, but that is not solution. Vbios is only one who need to fix this problem, bcs ppl like me want to use Linux or Mac osx without flicker Driver only can help in windows not in other systems.

Do you think this issue could harm the videocard? or that if changing it to another one of the same brand will solve the incident?

Because if so, my driver fix is not comforting

I'm not competent to know if it can physically damage the card, probably not. My card Working in Windows 8.1 with 2D memory tweek, but in OSX 10.9 it is not possible because osx directly read parameters from vbios. I dont want to use tweeks on new brand card and will w8 a little more for asus to provide new vbios. If not I will change for difrent card from Asus too like nvidia GTX 760. So, same model from same brand will not fix problem, only same brand but difrent model

But there has to be millon of people with these cards, and I think this problem only affects a few of us.

I hope the problem is not physical, changing the videocard to the salesman would be a pain

Edit your signature to conatain your rig specifics, this way I can better figure out what is the problem.

Use the same level of detail I do

Done.

By the way, these clock jumps may be the reason. Even though with older drivers the flickering is not noticed, the clock jumpiness is still there. Seem to happen while browsing the internet or watching videos. Clocks jump to 500-1500 against the standard 300-150

Hello!

I have SAPPHIRE DUAL-X R9 280X.

And i have the same issue i think. When using browser Google Chrome I see flickering in miliseconds and some kind of artifacts. Mostly when play video in browser.
I noticed that issue since i install AMD Catalyst™ 13.11 Beta 8 Driver. Installing AMD Catalyst™ 13.11 Beta 9.2 didn't solve the problem.

No fix yet?

I have the same problem (Flickering). My display card is Gigabyte R9 270x OC.  I didnt do any overclock setting. And my PC is totally brand new.

I have 2 problems:

(1) It just flickering when I am browsing website (happen in random, like every 5-10mins). Exactly like what you guys mentioned

(2) When I play LOL, I remember that there are 1-2 times that the whole screen freeze for 1-3s. It is terrible. I never had this problem even my other old PC using AGP card. However, when i play BF3 with Ultra setting, it works very good.

I tried the lastest stable AMD driver (13.0x) & (13.11 beta), the problems still unsolved.

And like what revlucion09 mentioned, i had the Clocks jump to 500-1500 as well even I just browsing the internet in this forum only. (no video, no heavy tasks running)

I removed the beta drivers and installed AMD_Catalyst_13.10_WHQL. The problem disappeared. Flickering stopped.

I have yet to see any information on release for a fix. Ive spoken to Sapphire who makes my card and they said AMD is working on a driver to fix the issue. So I guess we just have to be patient.

If the flickering bothers you too much, this is how I fixed.

When not playing games and just on desktop I used ATI overdrive in the CCC and do the following:

Set the core clock to 300 and the memory to 150.  Enable overdrive and you wont get flickering. When its time to play a game, just disable overdrive. Im sure there is other programs you can make profiles for this, but Im lazy and just use CCC.

I know it sucks, but Im sure there will be a driver or BIOS, whatever it really is released soon.

Reiner09, Did you read my post above? I advise you to read.

My solution to the flickering screen like this:

Remove the beta driver, and then brush the program: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/guru3d_driver_sweeper_(no_installer).html

After restarting the computer, install the driver: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=382773
