Hi bought a new sealed Asus Radeon HD7790-DC20C-1GD5 a couple weeks ago from Amazon and have been getting quite fed up with the problems it has caused.

Firstly installed drivers from the Asus website as the driver disc isn't recognised in either my CDRW or DVDRW drive. These threw up several "file not found.." messages whenever the computer was turned on. Lip sync was also out on all youtube videos. Several messages to Asus over a week or so they finally pointed me to the AMD website for drivers.

Uninstalled all drivers. Re-installed using drivers AMD download, now have Catalyst 13.9 Driver 13.152.1.8-131008a-163824C-ATI.

Lip sync seems ok now and I get no error messages on start up. However Youtube videos have not been particularly smooth playing back ever since the card was installed. Prior to this card I had a GeForce 8600 GTS and youtube was silky smooth. I have 78Mb ADSL, loading the video is not a problem.

THE REAL PROBLEM HOWEVER IS THIS; My computer is configured to go into standby after 30 minutes of no use. Now whenever this happens I cannot get the computer to resume. Before this card was installed it was fine. WORSE THAN THIS though, the computer becomes completely un responsive, forcing me to hold down the power button to turn off. Once I have done this, the computer will not turn back on. Fans run full speed for 3 seconds then it all turns off again. No beep from bios. I was convinced the PSU was faulty, so tried a replacement. All worked again. However has now done it with second PSU. If left with PSU disconnected from mains will turn on ok again.

As well as this, there seems to be a 50/50 chance of the monitor seeing an output from the card on startup, often requiring and second startup to get a picture.

PSU is OCZ 500w Stealth X-treme 2.

Motherboard Packard Bell Denver 10 with on-board Nvidia. All drivers uninstalled before inserting 7790.

Monitor HP 2310i

Havent tried a single game on the card, I wish I never bought it. Have tried explorer and firefox with several plug-ins to smooth youtube, no joy.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Motherboard BIOS, I have no idea.

3Gb DDR 2 ram

Windows 7 32bit

320gb Seagate sata hd. dvdrw sata. cdrw ide. 1 fan (nothing is getting hot in there anyway, not like I've asked anything demanding of the card yet!)

System has Microsoft essentials does a clear scan. Did a c cleaner run on registry etc between uninstalling/resinstalled drivers. These problems were all there with both driver installs, the second install just cured the missing files problems.

I have been trying everything for the last fortnight, I wish I'd never seen the card. Please HELP!

Just had another 3 tries on startup and have realised when it doesn't work graphics card fans run fast and are audiable constantly.

When it does work card fans are slow and silent.

Reading other people posts on here I have now disabled the acceleration option on youtube player. This has greatly improved playback. Not quite perfect, but now acceptable. Lip sync also seems ok.

Any ideas on the main problems please?

Old motherboard not playing nice with new hardware would be my guess.

i'm thinking the same thing, ever since the 5k series cards, for some reason old nvidia chipsets/ Intel Chipsets have had issues with AMD's new cards.

thanks guys, it's taken you 1 post each to put me straight, something Asus couldn't manage after a week of emails! I've sent it back for a refund. Won't be buying a Radeon for an intel machine again.

REALLY impressed with ELECTRO-DIRECTNET on Amazon, return/refund no problem.

REALLY NOT impressed with Asus. Nevermind my problems, they seemed more interested in calling me a liar for having a Golden ticket inside, despite sending photographs! Turned out the promotion was out of date anyway, but they were more interested in arguing I could only possibly have had a bronze. Nevermind, "we're very sorry Sir, that promotion has ended" (Or maybe enclosing some actual info on the promotion, rather than just a ticket). They really were a joke.
