I am getting these issues too...same card as you: Sapphire R9 290
I hope you're right that it's driver related.

What I am hearing from at least a few people I've talked to is that the problem with these cards is the memory.
If that's the case, then I have to RMA and ask for a refund.
I still have my old video card (Radeon 6970) to fall back on...however, my hope is that this issue is fixable either through firmware or through drivers.
We need a response from AMD though.

Agreed we do need a answer of somekind from AMD, now I dont think this is a RAM prob with this cards, that one BSOD has not come back and I been playing BF4 for a while ( note that game is crap still needs more bugs worked out ) but I been playing others and no probs really, I am not using GPUz and no black screens im not OCed and so far its not bad, I am getting the random up and down gpu usage like some others here posted, and its does cause a frame dip sometimes. But for the most part no black screens for me or BSODs im sure most of the probs ppl are getting is driver related.. overall the card seems solid... I sold my sapphire 6970 to a friend of mine should not have done that but I needed a new PSU for this card.. but its running ok now we do need AMD answer and we do need more solid drivers to fix our probs! AMD has a change to get out here and tell us whats going on before EVERYONE RMAs there cards because of false assumptions about the ram or the hardware being defective.. im inclinded to believe this is really driver related.. it is new hardware after all ( last note never ever buy new hardware... @ launch )

Same exact issue and error code here with Sapphire 290x.
I'm already on my 2nd card so it's so far 2 cards having the same issue.
It just randomly blue screens no matter if I'm doing anything graphics intensive or not. Sometimes it runs for a day without issues and sometimes a few in a roll within minutes.
My setup (nothing overclocked):
Asus Rampage III Gene (updated to latest bios)
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 12GB
Intel i7 950
Corsair HX850W PSU

I may just do that haha.
Well, it seems AMD is aware of this issue and a fix "should" be coming soon. But I wonder if the fix, which seemingly is for the black screen issue, will also fix the blue screen issues...

BTW: One extra data point.
Same driver, betav9.2, but using a Radeon 6970 instead of the R9 290 gives me a totally stable system.

Same thing here. When I use my old 5850 without changing anything else including the driver, my system runs stable.

hmm now it makes me wonder if its really the hardware... AMD has still not said if there is a hardware problem or not.. I updated bios as well, once in a great while I have the problem with all 3 of my screens like full screen artifacting, I need to find a way to catch it when it does it to see if anyone is having this prob, it seems to do it while watching 1080p vidoes once in a while.. I ordered my card off newegg on the 7th of nov... wonder if I should exchange it.. o_O

Well my replacement card seems to be doing fine so far. I am going to hit it with some DX11 titles later to really test it.
If you're having trouble, you should do an RMA replacement. It was about a week turnaround for me...but only because I used the USPS to ship it. Maybe if you pay more with FedEx it will get to NewEgg faster. Newegg did process my RMA almost immediately when the got the card though.

Got a new one today but no crash dump for some reason?
It ALWAYS happen when I'm on Youtube, and either putting a video fullscreen, or skipping to another point in a video. No BSOD in games for now. Got the latest Beta drivers.
Oh, and I'm on my SECOND r9 290. RMA'd my first because of coil whirring :/ And the first also gave me those BSOD...
The PC and everything in it is brand new, the MOBO is a MSI G43 Gaming. PSU is a Corsair 650W so no problems here. Gonna test the memory just in case. Edit: The memory passed Memtest just fine.

I was having the same exact BSOD error codes but not after I got my 2nd replacement and using beta 9.4 driver.
Either way it's going to be RMA'ed again due to coil whine. I hope I can get a refund and jump ship already.

Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration? If you are using IE..then tools/internet options/advanced..use software rendering. Firefox has the same setting available.

Still getting 90° with one Youtube video open and paused, and another running. I close them, and the temperature plummets to a cozy 60°! Those drivers seem to hate Youtube Flash player ATM D:
Edit: Seems it's running especially hot if a video is paused and/or running in an INACTIVE window. Weird!
