Hi,

Did you make any progress with the issue? I'm having the same occasional 0xa0000001 BSODs, which only occur during video playback.

My system is brand new, as are all the installations, memtest ran fine.

Thanks.

I have seen this bug happen. A couple of times it happened when I had a game in the background and was checking out some game info viewing a youtube video. It would only crash my browser and game.

This week was the first time it happened to me when just viewing a youtube video. I clicked in the middle of the playback bar to fast forward, and a big old BSOD. The strange thing is that my bios did not recognize one of my drives until I performed a cold boot. The playback of the video had nothing to do with the driver. So I originally thought it was drive problem until I looked at the memory dump.

I have since upgraded to the latest 13.12 drivers (dated 12/18) from the latest beta drivers (dated 12/3).

Guys I am also having these issues on my Sapphire R9 290. And I am on my second card already. The exact same issues include BSoDs/black screens/games crashing.

I'm kind of pissed off already, should I top up and change to a GTX 780? I mean it's more expensive and performance is slightly poorer but reliability from what I heard is much better. Please advice.

I'm still hoping that this is a driver issue... I'm already on 13.12 and the problem is still apparent. (Although I think 13.11b9.5 and 13.12 are the same except for the whql.)

I forgot to mention that I have a XFX 290, so it could very well be a driver issue.

Well, I got another BSOD today during playback. I think I am going to send this back. I can put up with bugs, but BSODs, not so much.

I believe Sapphire included a PowerPoint with the BOIS update that outlines the necessary steps. Here is the link to the PowerPoint:

Just follow the directions step by step. Its pretty easy. It just ensures the fan works at 47% speed without the AMD drivers. In my experience, my card does not throttle.

Im highly confident this is a driver issue, they've had this problem in previous versions of their drivers, it has too do with cataclyst 13.11 and 13.12, these screens are nothing but a pain, but i have never had a problem with amd, so i will remain loyal, its just a bummer knowing that if i play any game theres a potential bsod, amd will realease a new driver, once thats done we will finally be able to enjoy these monstrous r9 290's.

Hi guys,

did anyone found a way to solve the problem?

i bought the MSI R9 290 and have the same problem BSOD, the reason is the hyper trasnport timeout, the only way i could make the system stable was to make the pcie clock to 140 in the bios, after that it was stable, my motherboard is a asus m5a78l le, i think this may happen because of our pcie 2.0 ports are not able to handle the load of the r9 290, what are your opinions on changing pcie clock on the bios.

Thank you!

With latest beta AMD (14.1) and Flash (12.0.0.44) drivers, I still get occasionnal BSOD when transitioning between normal and fullscreen youtube videos.

It doesn't seem to happen when Hardware acceleration is disabled in Flash settings, but 720p+ videos look like crap without it :/

Hi,

I have exactly the same issue with the 14.1 drivers. BSOD with the same message/driver. Mine seem to be related to Chrome and video (flash) but its not exclusive, just an observation. Anyway in the process of trying to resolve the, very annoying, issue I came across this article...

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=363233

After following this but substituting the 14.1 file location "\AMD\AMD_Catalyst_14.1_BetaV1.6\Packages\Drivers\Display\WB6A_INF\B167659" for  atikmdag.sy_ my system has become stable.

I ran chrome with 12 video streams going with IE with two and Firefox with four all at the same time. Then spent a fair ammount of time surfing the web and running outlook. A 'basic' stress test. Happy to report that the issue appears to have gone away - 24 hours without a problem

It might be worth a shot! Though why the AMD driver would become corrupt is beyond me - shoddy testing.

In the process of fixing this, before i found the above options, I have tried a complete uninstall and driver clean through safe mode etc etc etc. Reinstall, roll back to 13.12, clean, replace with 14.1. Clean again - you get the picture.....

Using a Gigabyte R290 (GV-R929OC-4GD)

Enjoy

------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE

48hours plus with PC in constant use - NO ERROR - shutdown last night - restart this morning and within 20 minutes the PC crashed with the same BSOD message.!!!! Maybe route cuase is the driver but the fix does not appear to be the end of the problem -

I just bought a new PC with Sapphire R290 Tri-X.
And I sometimes get this BSOD whenever I try to jump in a Youtube video's timeline, along with the 0xa0000001 error code.
I never got this problem while playing games (like Metro Last Light, Crysis 3, Assassin's Creed 4 and a lot of others).

It's worth to mention that when I used my old PC with the Radeon 4870 I never had this problem with Youtube!
So after reading this thread it seems like it's a problem with the card itself or the driver.. wtf AMD..? fix this!

UPDATE 2....

Chrome browser Beta compiles JavaScript in the background.

http://hexus.net/tech/news/software/66109-chrome-browser-beta-compiles-javascript-background/

Since installing this BETA Chrome my BSOD error has gone gone gone gone gone . Maybe it was an AMD sys driver clash with Chrome, maybe a bug in Chrome fixed in the BETA.

I have now run for a few days solid with video streaming and gaming at the same time, overnight stress testing and no BSOD's.

I get this BSOD as well while streaming from youtube. But also playing local video files can cause a BSOD .

is this a known problem by AMD? i checked the latest betas readme files, there was no mention of this problem.
