Hi everyone,

I still keep getting this random BSOD error during video playback and/or youtube streaming. Any solutions so far?

Thanks.

I really hope its only a driver issue, since i dont want to rma the card. EDIT: dunno if anyone from AMD ever gonna read this, but i attach the error details too

Do you have the latest drivers / bios for your motherboard and graphics card.

is your motherboard bios configured properly? Are all updates installed for your OS?

Do you have any other problems other than these BSODs? specially when gpu is under load?

Whats your psu?

yea, everything is up-to date: Driver latest beta driver, win 7 x64 all updates.

Bios: lates version too - i had to flash bios, since i had memory incompatibility issues.

PSU: 600 Watts

CPU: amd phenom x4, 3.4 ghz,  old by now, but still sufficient

RAM: 32 GB Geil Evo Leggera

Board: Asrock 990FX Extreme 3

I installed latest Beta AMD drivers, and hope that helps. Of course i first thought its the mem, since that is most common culpit for such kind of issues. I did memtest, and everything was fine. Besides, if it would be mem, it would crash on other stuff too.

Totally strange thing is, it really only happens on Video- Payback (Web or Windows). I can play for hours and did Furmark to put card under load, no issues whatsoever.

I cleaned all previous drivers too.

Today i disabled spread-spectrum in BIOS settings and see if that helps, since ive read it could be a factor too.

well... after running my system now with disabled Spread-Spectrum in BIOS for 1 Week i can say, that this setting might have fixed the Blue-Screen for me. But still too early to celebrate. If my System runs stable for 1 month or so, then i can consider this problem solved.

EDIT: oh well, just after getting optimistic - today, after wanting to watch a video -> Bluescreen... So, nothing fixed at all.

I can't belive that 6 months after this problem has been reported, AMD didn't fix this problem. Even with the 14.4 driver I still randomly get these annoying BSOD's while watching video's locally or via streaming (youtube). Everything else is working perfectly, I can play games with the highest settings without any issue.

System Spec's:
- Intel Core i7 3930K
- Asus Rampage IV Extreme
- 16GB G.Skill 1866
- Be Quiet Dark Power 850W
- Asus R9 290X DC2OC 4GB (newest BIOS)
- Win 8.1 Pro

Please AMD, fix this issue. It is really annoying.

it may still be a hardware issue.I had a similar issue, and it turned out that the card is faulty.

tons of other using these functions without a problem.

i did run vid-memory stress test tool, and no errors where found. Besides, as many others, i can put card to load or play games for hours and no BSOD at all. So im still very confident its a software releated issue.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm now running the Catalyst beta 14.6 driver and since 2 days I didn't have a BSOD while watching videos. I know, its not really representative, so let's keep the fingers crossed.

So I did return the 290 when I posted earlier, and I just picked up a non-reference 290x. This card BSODs as well during videos.

So I looked into more, and I am currently trying the flash and browser set to no hardware acceleration to see if that makes a difference. It's looking good after one day, but those that have experienced it, know that one day or few days is meaningless to prove a change might have fixed it.

Hi, I have a 270x Windforce Edition. I'm experiencing these exact same blue screens, except that I only blue screen when I'm playing games. It usually happens between 30mins-3hours. I know it's not quite the same problem you all are having but I'm getting the exact same error codes. As for videos no problem yet. I did just build this rig about 20 days ago. I also have a question... Like you all I have tried everything and I still have 5 days to return this card. Should I do that, or just wait and try and find solution?

@SgtChives: sounds like a temperature releated issue. Try to check temps or run FurMark to verify. Aditionally you can run Video Mem test (http://mikelab.kiev.ua/index_en.php?page=PROGRAMS/vmt_en) and check your vid mem.  If there is an error -> return card. Did u get Artifacts?

---

Back to topic, i too installed latest beta driver, and no BSOD since 1 week now... But i noticed, that i now no longer can play YT- Videos in Full Screen. I have to disable hardware acceleration....

SgtChives, your issue sounds like a completely different issue. I would return it for another card. I really can't say what is going wrong there. Since it's a new system, it could be about anything. So I would return it, and if the new card has the same problems, then start troubleshooting other things.

As far as video playback BSODs go, turning off hardware acceleration in adobe flash is looking good so far for me.

With watching videos in the browser i think every AMD user has the BlueScreens.. its a well know problem with AMD graphiccards.

I had a blue Screen on 14.4 and after that a new one on 14.6

My vendor told me to bring it back. It was brand new and defect he says. I dont think its the reason but maybe yes. Such things happens.

You dont have to choose Nvidia because of this. Nvidia is not better in defect hardware.

But off course AMD drivers are crap anyway.

I know that i will have the s

Hi,

I own a Sapphire R9-290x and I've also been experiencing these BSOD regarding atikmdag.sys

Normally everything is fine, I can game for hours without issues. But one site I visit (used to) almost always cause it to crash. playrust.com

It has a few flash videos there that my ATI drivers hate.

Somebody please fix this!!

Getting a BSOD while simply watching a youtube video is a fatal flaw in my opinion.Perhaps the 290 series is just incompatible with my motherboard or setup.
